Week 6: Trial

   

The atmosphere at the courtroom is different this time. Although people are filling the tribunes, not everyone seems to be furious with the outsiders. Some are scowling and looking at them with outrage, others are cautiously wary of them. Unhappy, but not about to snap anyone's neck.

The Sergeant waited until everyone was at their spots, and counted them:

"Our numbers are dwindling. It's surprising, I admit. I thought there'd be more of you at this point"

Not that it's inconvenient. It's just surprising. The number of podiums belonging to the deceased prove just how many have perished. Several of you may be feeling a bit lonely in the sea of black velvet.

"Wayne Uedera, Osamu Dazai. They're the victims this time. Good luck, everybody. Here's my help to you all, like last time, vote for as many as you consider necessary:

I approached him, and asked him to help me protect what matters most to me. Can't you see that's what I'm doing?

[And his tone's earnest there.]

I really do. But we were... [And then he trails off because he doesn't really know if he even believes it himself right now. He's tired, but he looks up again towards Sarge first, then back to Hawks.]

No matter what we lost, we were going to get it back when we figured out how to kick the Sergeant's ass.

Except you can promise that. I'm well known for decisive action, Keith. And I can't see enough evidence to say this will turn out well if we all are just waiting around for the proper opportunity. I'm a risk taker, but I can't take that risk.

I can't promise that, no.

[He's not going to lie about that; unlike most of the other paladins, he was never an optimist.]

But I know giving up on that will guarantee that it won't happen.

[A beat.]

If you haven't given up, send us whatever help you can from the other side. We're going to need it.
