Week 7: Investigation

The night comes and goes. Whether it's quiet is anyone's guess, but the sun rises as usual, though blocked partially by cloud.

The Sergeant's weekly endeavor destroy your reputation seems to have backfired. Another ghostly communication resulted in some emotional catharsis, for some of you. Perhaps there's the sense that things may be improving...

...But the threat to keep your loved ones here still hangs heavy in the air. It's not just your lives on the line, not anymore. That must be on everyone's minds. By sunset today, Cartesio's set to have a whole bunch of new residents, if the Sergeant has anything to say about it. On top of that, your deadline to receive a medal's almost up.

For that reason, despite the steps forward you've made this week, Friday's sunrise brings dread. What chances are there that all of you are still alive? Do you even want that, with the Sergeant's over your heads?

Whatever your feelings are, the town still beckons to you. Investigate, if you feel up to it.

[...He's going to be an expert on burned corpses at this rate. What's going on with Kinzie's corpse here? How extensive are these burns?]

[ They're definitely a different animal from last week. While Dazai had extensive and steady burn damage, Kinzie's is severe but littered with cuts and gashes--whole chunks of flesh gone, on her face, arms, legs, and torso. At her torso and arms, her clothes are either half-melted or shredded. ]

[He's just... going to wave the wolf away. Young Cosmo does not need to see this, gdit.

First, let's take a look at these gouged out areas. Any indication of what was used to do this? ..And while we're at it any way of telling what killed her -- the charring or the cuts/gashes?]

[ It doesn't look like they were purposeful, the gashes. In fact...judging from the metal shrapnel around her body? Keith can probably take a guess as to what caused them.

As for what killed her, it's a bit...of everything, honestly. The burns, for the record, seem heaviest at her arms, face, and torso, like where the clothing damage is. ]

[Wonderful. He'll take a closer look at the shrapnel in a moment.

Are there any weapons or other items on the corpse?]

[ Well... Nothing on the corpse, but near the corpse. Down by her feet. There's this three-foot, purple, half-melted...thing laying next to her. It's long, like a bat, but clearly not one, as it appears to be melted silicone in design, with a metal hilt-like handle.

It's...mostly oblong, but there's a round section protruding from just above the hilt and...

Keith. Just gonna ask you straight out. How familiar are you with sex toys? ]

[Scowling very slowly just turning into an expression like he just wants to fucking die.]

[ Because Kinzie. That's why.

So yeah, this here's a dildo that could also be used as a baseball bat. Definitely awkward.

You need a moment, Keith? ]

[NO, HE'S LEAVING.

Okay, no he'll ... deal with Kinzie's toy later just...

Let's go back to the metal shrapnel. What's happening with the shrapnel?]

[ Thank god, let's talk about the shrapnel.

It's littered all around the area, on the charred earth and a little beyond it. It's varying sizes, seemingly...varying metals? Very weird. ]

[Alright, so it's time to gather up a few pieces of shrapnel then to show people at the trial tomorrow.

So assuming this was some kind of bomb, what's the blast radius looking like based on the charred earth and where is Kinzie relative to it]

[ The radius is about four feet, give or take. Kinzie is...well, she's close to it? The earth under her is still charred, but the impact seems to have taken place maybe two, three feet from her, and from the wall of the lodge.

Before you do too much looking around, though, there are a few other things to note about her body and what's immediately next to it. ]

[Alright. He'll look. But if it's more sex toys.... ]

[ It's not, promise! This is more of the grim and gruesome nature.

It's been established, where the injuries are most severe, but Keith may want to look at other parts of her body as well. Say, the back. ]

[marmoron]

[Yeah, that'd be a good idea to not overlook that. He'll turn Kinzie over to check her back for injuries. What do we have here?]

[ First of all, Keith will immediately notice: there are no burns on Kinzie's back.

Second of all, upon taking a closer look at her skin, he'll notice bruising consistent with blunt force trauma, all over her back. ]

[No burns... and no cuts or gashes either then?

....and about these bruises. Are they...uh... roughly the size of an object that will not be named?]

[ Oh thank god they're not. No, it's more like...almost like a big old connected bruise? More like from an impact. ]

[marmoron]

[So one large bruise roughly consistent with hitting the ground really hard then?

Any other injuries to note? Broken bones etc.]

[cartesio]

[ Consistent with hitting something very hard.

She doesn't appear to have broken bones, though it wouldn't be surprising, if some were cracked. That seems to be the extent of the injury report. ]

[[Fushigi mystery....

There anything else to note about Kinzie herself and the objects in her immediate periphery, or can he go check out the rest of the blast radius?]

[ A few more things about the objects in her vicinity.

First of all, there's several jagged rocks next to Kinzie. It's notable because unlike the rest of the rocks and earth, they are not burned. ]

[Interesting. Do these rocks at least look similar to the rocks in the area aside from not being burned?]
