Final Investigation

It's Friday. It's the last day marked in your calendar. Presumably, the few without medals will leave at some point today, and the rest...you're not sure what'll happen to you, but it'll be what the Sergeant wants.

How to defy him when you have so little time left?

Whatever plan you had today, it's guaranteed it won't go like expected. Early in the morning, the ground rumble slightly, and something pops in the sky. Fireworks! One after another, blasts from firework spread through the sky. Many of the residents of Cartesio come to the street, gathering and making all the noise they can.

It's a very radical change of behavior, compared to the once peaceful demeanor they had, and then the hostile behavior showed towards the visitors, but now they're making hubbub and causing disorder. Everyone does it spontaneously, and nobody's approaching the motel at all.

At least none of the townspeople.

Not long after that started, you may hear the noise of horns and whistles from vehicles, right outside the motel. Go take a look?

[Kino is also surprised, staring at the vehicles in silence for a moment before looking to the others.

Well. Are we doing this?]

[ honestly Sakura is echoing the same exact thing.

[He's also looking suspicious as hell of everything going on, but... his voice is low. Doesn't want to be overheard.]

You're armed, right?

[She just gives a quick nod. Got the three guns on her hips and back and some kind of box in hand.]

[One of the people in the patrol cars -- Jake Peralta -- beckons to them]

None of us are sure what's going on, but you gotta trust us, okay? First we get you to a safe place, then we deal with whatever's going on.

Ah--

[ there's the recognition in Sakura's eyes of that exact face, a slight gasp that causes her to pause, just slight. ]

If you're saying to trust you guys... then. Mm. Let's go, as long as we don't leave any of the others behind.

[ she wants to believe in them. that wherever they end up at, they'll still be able to save the others. ]

[looks like Keith and Sakura are on board, so he's going to go, too. he trusts them both]

If you're going, I'm going, too.

[Hop in, Osomatsu!]

We're ot leaving anyone behind, Sakura.

[Firm. They're not leaving their dead behind,gdit.]

We're coming back for them.

[ she agrees wholeheartedly with that sentiment, nodding quietly. ]

And we will. Definitely.

[ but guess we're doing this for now. ]

[Welcome to the road to freedom, Sakura!]

[Some of the few agents here look at each other. The others are dead, aren't they? These seven are the last ones, and nobody knows where the deceased's bodies are. Nobody's itching to carry several corpses with them, but nobody says that. It'd be really rude.]

We won't leave them behind.

[There isn't really anything else they can reply to that]

Right.

[He's got his weapons with him as well, so.]

Let's get going then.

[Another nod, and she faces the townspeople properly.]

...Okay. Let's go.

[Getting all seven survivors into the vehicles is easy, once a few of the townspeople descended. After everyone is in the cars and the truck, the caravan roars to life, going rather fast towards the edge of the town.

The border is crossed without any trouble! After a few minutes of journey, some of the townspeople try to make conversations. No sign of the Sergeant, there's no thunder falling from the sky...looks like you're getting away!]

It's going to be a few hours before we get anywhere. If you want any food, Luthier over there brought some from the bakery, but there's no more than that--

[Whatever they were saying is cut off when they see something in the distance:

A town.

It should take just a few minutes to get there]

[Kino actually does engage in some of the small conversation, but her eyes will remain glued to the windows.]

What is that place?

There shouldn't be...any towns nearby.

[Murmurs of agreement fill the vehicle Kino is in.

Looks like nobody knows]

[...Ominous.]

Are we... going to stop there?

[Like if they wanna keep going elsewhere she wouldn't complain.]

We're going to have to go through it anyway.

[The closer they get, they may be able to hear something -- something familiar. Fireworks, people making noise, all kinds of things.

And then came the sights. Familiar buildings, familiar streets, places you know. No wonder you can recognize them, you have been in this town for two months.
