Week 0: Investigation

The deadline is fast approaching and the one thing that should be on everyone’s minds is, “what’s going to happen now?” Last night there was a strong thunderstorm, and thanks to it the air still feels cold, moist, and even a little murky. Droplets of water cover many surfaces outside, and there are few clouds hanging in the sky. It’s rather fitting weather given, in just a few hours, all of your lives will be claimed. Have you made peace with this seemingly unavoidable outcome?

Whether you have or haven’t, it would appear your musings are doomed to be interrupted. Outside the motel sirens can be heard as a patrol car zooms by. Maybe nothing’s wrong, and maybe it’s something unrelated to everyone’s current situation.

...but, even if it is, how many of you can really sit around and do nothing? The events of the 30th proved how eager to help some of you are—enough so to put even your own lives in danger.

Abruptly, the patrol car makes a sharp turn and disappears out of sight.

Despite Will's strong stomach for this kind of stuff, this part is actually pretty disconcerting. Removing limbs is one thing, but the waist being here as well...

What is the status of the waist here? Similar situation to the severed part of the arm?]

[Indeed, same ragged skin at the edges, but unlike the arm, there's also clothing, all wet from the rain and being exposed to the elements for an entire night. There's pockets in these pants, too.]

[So there are!

Time to loot the corpse....... Is there anything to be found in those pockets?]

[Nothing on this pocket. The other one is similarly empty--oh, wait, it isn't. There's something.

Once Will pulls it out he finds it's a receipt. It's moist and may need to be handled delicately so it doesn't tear apart, but at least it's readable]

[A pleasant surprise, given how wet everything still is.

(Is "pleasant" really the right word for this?)

Carefully, he peels the receipt open to take a look at the contents. Now where did the receipt come from?]

[The logo on top makes very clear where it's from: the hunting shop.

The item itself is detailed in the receipt, too: a handsaw. The size of the saw is also specified, it's rather large]

[...hm. That's a pretty interesting find, considering. Is the date of purchase anything worth taking note of?]

[The date is a bit smudged, but if you look closely you'll see it:

March 30th.

The hour is too smudged to be readable]
