Week 0: Investigation

The deadline is fast approaching and the one thing that should be on everyone’s minds is, “what’s going to happen now?” Last night there was a strong thunderstorm, and thanks to it the air still feels cold, moist, and even a little murky. Droplets of water cover many surfaces outside, and there are few clouds hanging in the sky. It’s rather fitting weather given, in just a few hours, all of your lives will be claimed. Have you made peace with this seemingly unavoidable outcome?

Whether you have or haven’t, it would appear your musings are doomed to be interrupted. Outside the motel sirens can be heard as a patrol car zooms by. Maybe nothing’s wrong, and maybe it’s something unrelated to everyone’s current situation.

...but, even if it is, how many of you can really sit around and do nothing? The events of the 30th proved how eager to help some of you are—enough so to put even your own lives in danger.

Abruptly, the patrol car makes a sharp turn and disappears out of sight.

Sakura's going to be noticing that patrol car but -- let's go ahead and check if anyone's fucked up the diner, first of all.]

[ She whispered softly to herself before getting up out of bed and leaving her bedroom. She walks through the hallway and down to the lounge. If anyone else is there, she'll ask them: ]

[Millium's scream may have gotten people's attention. Once some have gathered in the area, the air around you seems to turn a little more oppressive than it already was. It's because there's one person more among you, having arrived stealthily. He has a megaphone in his hand, and is moving measurely and parsimoniously, like he's trying to put his thoughts in order. He glances up at the head hanging from the branch]

...that wasn’t what I expected, to be completely frank with you.

[Better fulfil his duty and get things going, though -- there’s a lot yet to be done. The Sergeant clacks his heels together and addresses everyone who is gathered here through the megaphone]

A life has been cut short. Lovepon is dead, and the culprit is one of you remaining twenty-one participants. Allow me to thank you for taking the right choice -- it would have been so wasteful to get rid of twenty-two promising people.

[He steps back]

I advise you to investigate. Don’t bother the townspeople, just focus on what you have to do. The relevant places will have police cars there, I’m sure you can find them. Gather as much information as you can for the trial, and meet me at the courtroom in two hours. We are on a tight timetable here, don’t dawdle.

[Without even bothering to explain what he means by the trial, he leaves. This day started badly and it can only get worse, everyone]
