April 7th - Welcome Party

Welcome Party
Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

Yes. You earn more points if you hit them in specific ways.

[For instance, if you hit all four panels of this drop target. There goes number three.]

Huh... but all you can do is make those little levers go up n' down?

[That seems like a real lack of control, if you ask her.]

You also have some control over the initial speed of the ball, and you can shake the table slightly to influence its movement.

[See? Much easier.]

Oooh... like this?

[...Sorry, Olympia, you're almost definitely getting a TILT warning with how Millium is now shoving herself against it.]

[Olympia tries and fails to brace the table against Millium's power. There goes that game.]

...no. Slightly.

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-07 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh.]

...Booooo. Why do all these games here only want you to do things slightly?

[Millium may still be a little sore over skee-ball.]

What's even the point if you're not givin' somethin' your all?

Sometimes giving things your best effort means taking a more subtle approach.

[Starting over, she launches the ball again.]

...But that's not nearly as fun?

[How is this girl a spy.]

I don't know. Evading detection can be its own kind of entertaining.

[Refuge in audacity?]

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I guess. [Sigh!] I'd rather just smash my way in and then smash anyone in the way, really...

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. That is simpler, sometimes. But not always sustainable.

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-08 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Shrug!]

That's what the other Ironbloods are for. My job is just go in, get what I need, n' get out. Nobody really cares what happens between those two parts.

You sound more like a burglar than a spy.

[Not that she knows all that much about spying. We've seen her method of observation.]

Same deal, if it gets the information in the end.

[Olympia considers this for a moment. Though it's visually indistinguishable from ignoring the comment entirely to concentrate on pinball.]

The ends justify your means.
doublelammy: (☆ 14)

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-09 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yup.

S'how the world's gotta work sometimes.

[Really, people seemingly not paying attention is kind of normal for Millium at this point...]

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's a dangerous way of thinking in a place like this.

[It's a self-preservation mechanism, really.]
doublelammy: (☆ 59)

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-09 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Dangerous for you, maybe.

[That's not a threat. That just is.]

'Cause I just wanna stay alive and make it back home to everybody. If something gets in the way of that... well, I don't really know any of you. No skin off my back.
carbide: (B10F. Fire walk of fortitude)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-09 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder how long you'll be able to keep that viewpoint. After eight weeks, you might know some of us very well.

[Oh, awesome, she just got the multiball.]
doublelammy: (☆ 16)

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
...

That's true.

[She leans her elbows on the side of the machine a little, careful not to put too much pressure on it as to actually move it this time.]

Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Or maybe I'm just hoping we won't actually be here that long and we'll figure somethin' out before then. I dunno.

...Ooooh, neat! A buncha balls!
carbide: (B01F. A glorious journey's start)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-10 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh good, a change of topic.]

It's a reward for clearing one of the challenges.
doublelammy: (☆ 51)

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
But doesn't that make it harder to play?
carbide: (B01F. A glorious journey's start)

[personal profile] carbide 2018-10-10 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's harder to track them all, but if one of them falls I can keep playing with the others.
doublelammy: (☆ 33)

[personal profile] doublelammy 2018-10-10 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, okay. N' then when you're back down to the one it's just like before, right?
carbide: (B05F. The silent unknown abyss)
