April 7th - Welcome Party

Welcome Party
Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

[He makes something of a laugh.]

What better way to get into the killing mood than a party?

[She doesn't quite give a laugh in returned, but there is a small snort of amusement.]sure I don't want a dress.

[There's a small pause, before...]

You're the one with the weird name, right? Well, several weird names. Which one do you use?
burgerprince: (:snark:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-07 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The weirdest one.

[That probably doesn't narrow it down much.]

Jughead.

sometimes html betrays you and also deletes half your tag rip

[It's obviously a nickname, but she tilts her head, curious.]

Your creation, or somebody else's?
burgerprince: ()

press f to pay respects

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-09 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
It was bestowed upon me. Had it as long as I can remember.

[Jughead and Jellybean, two kids whose birth names were too unfortunate to go by, and both ended up with nicknames that’d stick far better. Be it bad memory or otherwise, he can’t recall a time where they didn’t go by them.

I shaped it, though. Made it my own. Carved out the identity of Jughead Jones the third.

[He says the last part with an air of mock grandeur.]

What do you think?

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-09 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's probably a miracle if you didn't get beat up at school with either of those names.

[She says it with a small smile, though, giving a shrug.]

So are your parents, like, super rich or just super pretentious? Or both.
burgerprince: (:actually:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-09 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The beating up happened because I'm a freak. The name thing was more of a secondary motive.

[He shrugs that off in a blasé manner.]

The answer- [He stuffs his hands further into his pockets, and looks around for a moment. Let the tension build.] None of the above. More column B if you had to pick one.

[There's clear sympathy in her expression for a moment, even if she doesn't feel comfortable placing too much emphasis on it given how quickly he moves past it. As such, her response is a simple:]

People are bullshit.

[Before she moves on.]

Man, stuck with a weird name and not lucky enough for it to mean that you're loaded. What made them choose Forsythe if they aren't that pretentious?
burgerprince: (:concern:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-09 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's-

[There's a brief reluctant moment.]

My dad's name. We call him FP. His dad's before it, too. Hence, the third.

[She hears that pause, that space between speaking, and it makes her hesitate in turn. There's curiosity in her tone when she does speak, but it's light; she doesn't want to push too much into a sensitive situation.]

I always thought that was weird. Like, parents naming their kids after themselves. A little bit narcissistic, you know?
burgerprince: (:sadjug:)

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-10 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
People already expect you to be your parents. That’s just an upfront admission of it.

[He sounds a little bitter. Just a bit.]

They’re wrong, though.

They're wrong, and anyone who thinks that kind of sucks, so.

[In contrast to his bitterness, her tone sounds certain, almost determined for whatever reason. Still, it makes her curious.]

What are your parents like, then?

[A question he hates answering. At least, here, it wasn't home, and matters of reputation could be thrown aside.]

Dad's in prison. It's complicated. [In both the situation of his arrest and Jughead's feelings for him.] Haven't seen mom in ages.

[He shouldn't feel vulnerable. Who in Riverdale now didn't know his dad got arrested, or could conclude his mom was out of the picture? Yet, the feeling persists, and he must shrug it off.]

So, you know, your standard nuclear family.

[She pauses, and a part of her regrets asking. She was curious, sure, but she doesn't know how to react to that. Even if she wishes she was, she isn't callous enough to brush it off as though it doesn't matter, but she's no expert at comfort, either.

After a long moment:]

Parents can be pretty bullshit. [It's conspiratorial, as though suggesting she can relate to the feeling even if not to the exact situation.] And people who lump their kids in with them are even more bullshit.

Truer words.

[He shifts uncomfortably, eager to be away from the focus of conversation.]

What're yours like?
robitussin: (pic#12531886)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[She pauses for a moment, weighing the benefits or lying or evading. Being honest doesn't cross her mind for more than a few moments.]

You'd definitely regret it if I told you.

Was that supposed to put me off?
robitussin: (pic#12531890)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-12 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally when someone says that you'll regret knowing something, that is a sign that you don't want to know it, yes.
burgerprince: ()

I’m a rebellious soul that doesn’t heed warnings.

[He says it with a level of irony, though no one could be blamed for taking it sincerely.

Whilst he’s curious, he knows the reluctance to share your dark parental past. He’d definitely skipped out on details intentionally.]

Just bullshit, then?
robitussin: (pic#12531890)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-16 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
...Bullshit is a pretty good description. I guess we've got that in common.

[A small shrug, as if to play it off.]

[A huffy laugh, as she crosses her arms.]

Yeah. Fair enough.
