Welcome Party

Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

It's just fine that Oso's no dancer – Millium actually has had some practice, but she certainly isn't using it right now. She's just happy to be having fun with her friend.]

Yeah, I was totally being dumb. [he looks dumb now, in that fancy suit, doing some kind of eighties disco move. too bad he doesn't have shutter shades] I forgot the point of dancing is to let loose!

[So does she! She does a little twirl on one foot, just barely managing not to fall over as she laughs right back.]

Yeah! N' if anyone else is judging, then they're being dumb 'cause they're not havin' as much fun as we are!

[he completely agrees with her, and even does a twirl of his own, that looks just ridiculous, and does earn him a few stares. but Osomatsu is fine with that. he doesn't really care what people think of him, unless it's like a really hot girl.

but even then, he's pretty comfortable in his own skin. and he's at least working off all the calories from the buffet.

he finally has to stop moving to catch his breath]

H-hey! Let's get a drink. Then we can come back.

[THAT'S THE SPIRIT, OSO. Get down with yo' bad self!

But okay, okay. Pausing! She can do that for his sake.]

Okay!

...Think they'll let me have anything fun?

[They most certainly won't. Her player is as horrified by the idea as anyone else would logically be. Unfortunately, she is just Like This.]

Anything fun? Ha! Yeah, right. [nope, all the fun is for him! for now, though, he just gets water. he'll grab a cocktail soon, though] Maybe in a few years.

[Still, she's not complaining more than that. She'll just grab herself something highly sugary and caffeinated, because clearly that's a good idea.]

...This may be a stupid question, and you don't have to answer if you don't wanna. But... do you grow up like a normal human?

She blinks, sipping on her soda absently.]

Mmm... it's not a stupid question, but I don't really have a good answer?

Kinda. But according to my specs, I'm gonna be mini-Millium forever. N' I don't really know what my lifespan would be compared to you guys. But it's not like I'm not aging otherwise.

[for some reason, Osomatsu figured that was the case, or he was imagining something like that. he knew that Millium wasn't a robot, but she was still... different, somehow.

he looks out at the dance floor again, feeling kind of sad for her. so she wouldn't get to drink anything fun ever, huh?]

You're lucky. [he finally says with a shrug] Bein' an adult is hard work! If I could be a kid forever, I totally would.

[Another sip.]

...Yeah. I would, too.

[She sounds a little wistful with that.]

I kinda started learning, back in school, but it's not like that's what I was there for. And now that the war is over n' C's dead, that's over, too. It's back to missions for me.

Will you always do missions? Forever?

[doublelammy]

[And now her tone of voice is alarmingly neutral:]

Prolly. 'Til either Gramps doesn't need me anymore or I die.

...n' with all the stuff I know, if Gramps doesn't need me anymore, I'll prolly die anyway.

[Sip.]

[oh... oh? what? does she mean that this Gramps would get rid of her?]

...Doesn't that scare you?

[Bingo.]

Not really.

I was made to be an Ironblood. I exist for Gramps' sake. If I'm not useful anymore, then that's that, and that's all there is to it.

But... It's not, though!

[he raises his voice a little, stomping his foot]

Whether you're useful or not shouldn't matter. You're a little girl, and you deserve to live your life to the fullest, your own way!

[That... earns a smile. A sad one, but a smile nonetheless.]

Ahaha... you really do sound like Rean, sometimes, y'know that?

[sounds like she's heard this speech before, which only makes Osomatsu more upset]

That's not the point! If you're gonna fight, or go on missions, then do it for yourself, not for anyone else. You're a great kid, Millium. You're not someone's property, for them to use or destroy if they feel like it.

She tilts her head, much like a confused puppy.]

...eh? I kinda am, though. Like, I was literally made for Gramps, and he bought me. Maybe that kinda thing is true for actual little girls, but it's not for me...

[Sorry, Oso. It's gonna take longer than a week to break through her wall of Issues™.]

[it's fine. he's just... baffled. it makes him furious, that she was made for someone. that's absolutely insane, and he doesn't know how to... argue that?

he looks away, gritting his teeth and running a hand through his bangs]

It's... different. You think for yourself. You're not... you're not a thing.

[She doesn't really know how to argue this, either. It's nothing she hasn't heard from Class VII, but... well.

Osomatsu knows her even less. And as far as she sees it, this is her truth.]

[he's the one who brought this up, so he will definitely allow her to change the subject. it's probably difficult for her, too.

he rubs his forehead, then nods]

Fine. I... I just... need a new drink. [preferably an alcoholic one, that'll relax him]

[She nods.]

I can just wait here for you. Maybe we can go play games?

...Sure. I'll be right back. [he really was upset about this, but Osomatsu would bounce back. changing the subject would be good for them]

'Kay.

[Millium will just quietly sip on her soda while she waits, looking... actually upset, for a change.

It's not that she minds her lot in life. This has been reality for her for as long as she can remember, and it's never really hurt as a result.

But it's weird, having someone who really doesn't know her at all express such concern. With Class VII, it was stupid, but at least she could make some sense of it. She'd been their classmate and constant companion for months, after all, and even if some of it was under false pretenses, there was no denying the bonds they'd built. Osomatsu, though? She hasn't even known him for a week...

...This is supposed to be a party. Feeling weird like this is just going to get in her way. So with a sigh, she shoves those feelings right back into the dark corner of things she never intends to deal with now or later. By the time Osomatsu returns, she'll be her usual self.]
