Welcome Party

Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

So you've got all the power, bein' a senior. And you're almost free! That must be nice.

[She pauses for a moment, her smile growing a little more sincere than the one she typically wears.]

...Yeah. It'll be nice to get away. College seems alright.

[relieable]

[interesting. he's surprised that got a smile out of her]

It'll be a lot harder, probably... Though, I dunno. I never went to college. You'll have t'tell me how it is!

[robitussin]

I think parts of it will be a lot easier.

[She doesn't elaborate on that, though, tilting her head instead.]

...You didn't? Why not?

[relieable]

Mm, I come from a big family. There was no money for college. 'sides, I just didn't want to have to face school all over again.

[robitussin]

You couldn't try for scholarships or anything...?

[A moment after asking that, though, she shakes her head.]

Never mind. It's none of my business.

[relieable]

No, it's okay! [it's okay to be interested in other people!] I mean... You're probably right. But I'm not smart, or athletic, or anything like that. I don't have any special skills at all.

[robitussin]

Come on. There's no such thing as a person who isn't good at anything..

[relieable]

[what is Osomatsu good at? he looks like he's trying to think of something, but he finally shrugs and shakes his head]

It's fine anyway. I wouldn't've done well in college. 'cause I'm pretty lazy. I'd probably skip classes, an' shit.

[robitussin]

I mean, that's up to you, isn't it? You say that, but you could have just decided to not skip them.

[relieable]

[a pause]

You're right. I just know I would.

[robitussin]

[A small frown.]

Don't just give up before you even try, man.

[relieable]

[he looks down for a moment. she doesn't know him, she doesn't know what kind of person he is. Osomatsu's not really a go-getter, at least not when it comes to work, or school]

It doesn't really matter, anyway. I'll probably never get the chance to go to college, unless I make enough money to pay for it on my own. But, by that time, why bother?

[robitussin]

Because it's...

[She pauses; it's hard for her to conceptualize the idea of somebody having no interest in something she holds incredibly dear.]

You really don't care about going?

[relieable]

[he didn't expect her to be so passionate about school, of all things]

I... don't know, actually. Maybe if I was your age, it'd be different.

[robitussin]

[A beat.]

If you did go, what would you have studied?

[relieable]

I don't even know... [he looks up, in thought. what are his interests? gambling? drinking? his brothers?] Maybe, like, something to do with food. Or animals.

[that's a stretch, but it's something]

[robitussin]

Yeah? You like to cook, or something?

[relieable]

I... don't know how to cook anything, really. But I love food.

[robitussin]

[She tilts her head.]

But you could learn, right? It probably takes, like, a ton less time than going to college, too.

[relieable]

Probably! [he scuffs his foot, looking down for a moment] Where do you even start with something like that, though?

[robitussin]

[She shrugs.]

I wouldn't really know. I've been on, like, a basic level for pretty much as long as I can remember, so I probably couldn't remember where I started if I tried. Isn't there a kitchen here, though?

[relieable]

There's the diner, and a tavern. And probably one in the casino. I guess maybe I could start by watching others.

[robitussin]

...You could ask someone to teach you, too. That's probably faster.

[relieable]

Well, yeah, but who's gonna wanna teach me? It's not like I can pay them for their time, or anything.
