Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many,
many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.
But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?
Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?
Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.
When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find
new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

[Going to check out all the new places that've been added to the map this week has led Keith to the fire station. There's a strange, contemplative look on his face as he looks around the place. The way he's carrying himself, he's undoubtedly familiar with all the equipment that's around.]
gas station - evening
[Since he's been avoiding the diner for no particular reason tyvm, he's hanging around the convenience store buying... what looks like a couple of days worth of food (does this kid just buy everything in bulk) along with several different colored sharpies, thumbtacks and paper. What is he up to, doo doo doo.....]
Fire Station
[Hi, Keith. The voice is still deadpan, but he might recognize its owner by now because of it.]

You don't have fire stations where you're from?
no subject
[Traveler and all. Kino generally just trusts the firemen of the country to know what they're doing.]
Are you used to being inside one?
no subject
[It's kind of a bitter place to be, really. He drops eye contact and places a hand on the side of the fire truck.]
Used to hang around one all the time when I was a kid.
no subject
Did you have some connection to it?
no subject
My pop was a firefighter. Why the curiosity?
no subject
I'm a traveler. I enjoy learning about the world and the people that make it up.
[It's a calm and easygoing answer, but that seems par for course when it comes to Kino.]

Don't count me in as part of this world. I'm getting out of here as soon as I can.

fire station
... but when she sees Keith, she is changing her mind on this very quickly. So here's an adult lady, doing the worst 'pretending not to see you and walking another way' routine ever. ]
no subject
...I can see you, you know.
[Isn't that a familiar line....]
no subject
I figured you wouldn't want to though.
no subject
[God, why is'he being so prickly....]
no subject
She looks very awkward, staring at him nervously, still smiling. ]
I'm... if you want to talk, then that is fine with me.
no subject
About what I said to you. [Through clenched teeth:] At the diner.
[And now he's just going to pause for an intermission there while he figures out how to put the syllables "so" and "ry" together.]

[ She helpfully offers as some kind of explanation for her own severe reaction. ]

I shouldn't have yelled. [....] Or said those things.

NPC
[ A woman in uniform approaches Keith after he's been poking around for a little bit. She undoubtedly works here. ]
no subject
I'd appreciate that.
[There's a surprising amount of civility there. Looks like he's capable of it if he really tries....]
I heard there was a fire a few weeks ago. I was wondering if you could tell me about it.

no subject
That wasn't an accident, correct?
no subject
Where'd you get that idea? Of course it was an accident.
no subject
Never mind. I must've misunderstood. [Token gesture of being placating or whatever.] Do fires happen often in Cartesio?
no subject
[ Just a lot of accidents. ]
no subject
Cartesio's been around since.. '75, right?
[Or at least that's the oldest of the police records he remembers seeing anyway.]
And there hasn't been a single arsonist. Guess life in a small town really is pretty different.
