WEEK 2: April 8th - April 12th

Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

[Time to give a better look to this concession stand. Is there anything noticeably unusual about it?]

[There is, indeed.

Most of the cinema is dark, although it's easy to look around, everything is supposed to be off. Despite that, one of the popcorn machines is warm, and has the lights on.

Take a look inside?

[Absolutely. She notices quickly and heads over, glancing to see if there's anything inside it.]

Weird...

[ He'll just be close by in case something shady as fuck happens, but he'll let her take front and center and do the thing. ]

[When she looks inside and sees everything in side, she furrows her brow for a moment, before realizing:]

We have to put in a number. It's some kind of puzzle, probably.

Uh. How good are you with puzzles?

[Oh, there's a lot inside this.

That's very clearly a key, colored popcorn, and buttons underneath the glass. The screen beside the buttons shows a series of numbers, with the last one blinking, awaiting input. Looks like you're expected to insert a number.

The top of the popcorn machine has a slot for something very thin. A quick look around doesn't show anything that could fit in there]

At first glance, it seems to be a Fibonacci variant.

The machine shudders, a bunch of smoke pouring from the back, before unleashing a torrent of butter, splashing in Franciscus' direction. Bits of popcorn litter the floor, soiling the carpet in manners that won't be cleaned not even with the best efforts.

That could have gone better. That number is incorrect]

[He sputters loudly, only managing one step back before the butter gets all over him. He lets out a few gasps, trying to shake it off himself the best he can before managing to compose himself.]

Well, that seems to not be the answer.

[What happens when we insert the metal mesh thingy in the slot?]

[The mesh goes in smoothly, until it disappears. The popcorn machine shudders like it did when Franciscus pressed the wrong button, before standing still. Slowly, the mesh emerges on the other side of the glass, and is pressed against it.

Other than the mesh, nothing changed, but perhaps it'll be an useful change to you?]

Ah, so it was not optional after all. I think I understand the meaning of the colors now.

The machine shakes, and the light turns off. The noise of objects falling through the chute at the bottom of the popcorn machine fills the lobby, all the popcorn inside falling to the feet of everyone, until, with a clink, an ancient key falls as well.

Careful when grabbing that. It's piping hot and covered with butter]

[ Grabbing it and then cursing. ]

Oh shit! That's hot!

[Oh, you solved a puzzle over there.]

Huh. You think the color number has to do with the number of popcorn in each section?

It seems so-though it seems to be the number in the section attached. And it appears the missing spot represents the key.
