Week 2: Trial

The day still is April 13th. It's now the afternoon

Just like he said he would, the Sergeant went to everyone and told them to go to the courthouse. It wasn't difficult to find -- three of the tourists already knew where it was. What nobody, not even these three thought, was that the courtroom would be so much populated this time.

All of the visitors went into the only trial room in the courthouse. In the center there were several podiums, formed into a circle. Each podium had a small notepad and a pen, and a slot on the top part of its surface, presumably to insert your vote in it. Each podium has a small placard showing who it belongs to -- except for Moloch von Zinzer's podium. That one is draped with black velvet.

The tribunes at the sides of the courtroom are higher than where your podiums are. During the trial Sakura, Wayne and Millium attended those tribunes had been empty, but this time they're not. Quite a lot of the townspeople are sitting there, talking with each other and observing all of the tourists with different expressions. Confusion, disdain, shock, all kinds of emotions, all united by the feeling of morbid curiosity. What did the tourists do? What will happen? That's what they're wondering.

And above all of them, on the judge's seat...the Sergeant. None of the townspeople's paying attention to him, he's sitting on his chair and twirling the gavel in his hand. He still is very pleased a murder happened, and once it's time to start, he says:

"We have gathered today for the trial to find the culprit for the death of Moloch von Zinzer. It's your task to discuss, find the truth of this murder and bring it to light. For the sake of not letting you bunch run in circles, I have decided to lend you a hand and give you the five most likely suspects -- the culprit being one of them"

And indeed, five small photos appear on your podium.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. With no further ado, I wish you good luck!"

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to you now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

clothes check?

[ oda's not a loud speaker, but he's going to do his best to get everyone's attention by hitting the podium a couple times ]

So...instead of getting everyone naked...why don't we just check people's clothes? There's a lot of knife and rust in the junkyard, so maybe some of it got on the culprit's clothes.

I got some rust on my cape from when we were collecting the knife.

[ It...probably also smells like garbage can funk. RIP cape. But here is Nine ready to be inspected. ]

That's not bad. But let me still check.

[ oda has gotten into so many gross situations that his nose might as well be dead. he'll also be checking nine for any other rust marks or tears on his clothes and shoes? ]

[ He's clean. Just whatever stuff you can find from him inspecting around trash cans at a park. ]

Could I see the bottom of your shoes for a moment?

[Sandalphon's not going to make any effort to really cooperate here as he stays planted right in front of his podium but if Oda wants to inspect him from a decent distance, he's welcome to. However, from what's outwardly visible, there doesn't seem to be any traces of junkyard rust on his clothes and armor.]

[ well, you know what, oda has some pretty decent sight as a sharpshooter, so he can actually note that.

that said-- ]

We could probably finish quicker if you cooperated more.

Asshole's real good at being uncooperative for some reason.

[ He's real annoyed about it, so he's saying something. Sorry not sorry. ]

Well, he's also being suspected for murder. That makes people angry sometimes.

[...Well, that's a good point actually. But.]

Then I'll go one step further and save you the trouble by telling you that it's a waste of time to check me.

[odasaku]

Why?

[Once again, politely:]

Could I please check your feet and some of your clothes? Just to be sure.

[merirut]

[Kino, you made a good effort but.]

No. There isn't anything to find anyways.

[quickpersuader]

Maybe so, but unless we can check everyone the same way, there's a chance people could default to voting for whoever we don't have evidence that they didn't.

It's also my own personal preference, but if I have to vote for someone to die, I want to vote for someone because I'm sure it was them instead of accidentally handing down judgment on someone who didn't cause this. But I only speak for myself.

Would it fucking kill you to lift your feet up so we can see them more or what?

[ Aka to see the soles of his boots or whatnot. He'll try his point of attack from there apparently. ]

Make it quick. [ Surprise, surprise, he actually will come over but isn't the most thrilled. His clothes may look like they belong in a junkyard, but there's no rust. ]

[odasaku]

[ oda takes a quick look and nods. ]

What about the soles of your shoes?

[amburere]

Not taking 'em off. [ But sure you can see the soles. He's wearing black army boots, and the dirt on the bottom is about what you'd expect from wearing them frequently. ]

[odasaku]

That's good enough, I think.

[ he nods again, not really finding anything suspicious. ]

[ There is some rust on Azura's gloves! But she's otherwise stain-free. ]

How come there's rust on your gloves?

I was picking up rusty knives. The ones in the park trashcans.

Can't say I have any on me, but feel free to verify yourself. [Hawks is perfectly willing to cooperate. He'll spread his arms wide to show he's not hiding anything as he slowly turns. His wings stay held away from his back, but they stay furled to let Oda see his back. It's his normal tan jacket and pants, and black undersuit.

No rust on any of his clothes.]

It's just to make sure.

[ oda will make sure to check everywhere. if there's no other sort of blood or marks besides the lack of rust, he'll nod. ]

Mind if I see your shoes, too?

[No blood or marks either, besides the normal wear and tear of an outfit you wear very often.]

Knock yourself out.

[He'll take turns lifting each foot. No rust, blood, or odd damage of note.]
