Week 2 - after trial

[everyone is probably more than a little stunned over what has been going on. while it is true that the Sergeant told them all this would happen, it's different to have to witness it with one's own eyes. while Nine is led away, and the townspeople leave the court, it is up to the visitors to decide how to move forward. do they talk among themselves? do they reflect on the events that took place alone? one thing that is certain is that the Sergeant got his way this week. will he continue to force them to keep picking each other off in the weeks that come? only time will tell.

this isn't really an after party. it's too sad, but perhaps many people will take comfort in the fact that they are not alone. either mingle at the motel, or somewhere else in town, or even visit Nine in his cell. it's up to you as to how you will spend the rest of this afternoon]

[Regardless of the results, it's time to eat. Kino can be found here first, ordering a meal - pasta - like nothing in particular had happened.

People are free to question Kino's volunteering to execute Nine, but otherwise, Kino seems to be content going through the rest of the day normally.]

Sarge wanted Oda to execute you, before you get any funny ideas.

[ He can't help the little lift in the corner of his mouth when he sees her. ]

[ Sakura's sitting by the lake, staring out at it with what seems to be a blank expression on her face. She isn't even crying anymore; she's just simply curling herself up like this, alone even if she honestly doesn't want to be. ]

OUTSIDE THE MOTEL

[After the trip to the diner, Kino heads over to the outside of the motel, where Kino has probably constructed some kind of weird pen made of piled up metal from the junkyard. How... safe.

The takeout box is unceremoniously upturned to drop some carrots and greens from the diner for the clucking chicken inside.]

I can't believe this...

[When Jughead spots Kino, he hesitates for a moment, before heading over to their table, sitting opposite. He looks off to the side briefly before facing Kino.]

What was that about?

[A pause and a slow blink.]

Which thing?

[A lot happened, you're going to need to be more specific there.]

[After the trail concludes, Natalie thinks about heading back to her room. After spending a few minutes there, she finds that she's too restless to stay in one place with her thoughts. Instead, she heads towards the pond.

She can be found there for a while, skipping small stones into the water. Well... Skipping might be the wrong word. Her focus isn't so much on making the rocks glide across the surface as having something to do with her hands. Given that, most of the rocks just sink without much ado.

If she notices anyone approach, she won't leave, but she doesn't start a conversation, either.]

[No beating around the bush here. His notebook is left in his pocket - this is off the record, so to speak.]

[ Yo, Nine. It's pretty late at night by the time Dabi shows up, but he doesn't really wanna talk to anyone else right now. He'll take a post outside the cell, leaning against the wall, arms folded. ]

So, why'd you kill him? [ He knows this question was asked at trial, but things kinda spiraled quickly there with the whining, begging, and yelling. ]

[ oda’s heading out to have a smoke when he sees kino and... a chicken?

he heads towards the traveler, almost as if the situation in the trial room hadn’t happened at all. ]

You got a pet?

[okay. so that was a thing that just... happened. Osomatsu is numb as he walks back to the motel. he doesn't feel like getting dinner, doesn't think he'd be able to eat. he mostly just wants to sit down and... he doesn't know? he wants to go home, actually.

he walks into the motel on autopilot, moves over to look at the hanging mural that has been drawn on by several people. then he flops into one of the lounge chairs and drops his head back, looking up at the ceiling. he'll probably engage if you talk to him, but it's easy to pass him by.

if you're Sakura or Millium, though, you're going to get his undivided attention]

[Well, it's not like Kino minds. It was right in front of everyone to see.]

One winter, I couldn't travel through the snow, so I settled by a certain country. That country had laws against medicine and euthanasia - anything that could unnaturally affect the length of a life - due to their beliefs.

However, it was okay if a "heretic" killed the ill, because then it was only the fault of the "heretic." The one killed could pass on to the afterlife safely, having done no wrong.

So long as I stayed outside of the country unless I was summoned, they would provide food and shelter in exchange for my acting as the "heretic."

If anyone should do it, I thought I could make it quick.

[Kino's voice remains level and calm as usual even while describing it all.]

[ He's out here too; park's best place to take a stroll...or something like that.

He spots her like this, though, and stops in his steps. His hands are kind of in his pockets as he considers moving on or not. ]

You plan on sitting like that all night or what?

[snideper]

[ugh. don't smile at her. don't even think about smiling at her. she hates it. she folds her arms, leans against some wall or doorway still in line of sight.]

I'm already tired of you pretending to make nice. I just didn't want you getting weird about it.

[ So, Nine's going to be dead soon. Might as well get in a few more words before he's ... yeah.

He arrives sometime later in the night for a visit, but not too late. ]

So, how does it feel, being all locked up in there, huh?

Somehow...

[Kino continues to look down at the chicken with an expression that's a mix of annoyance and, yes, still bafflement.]

I once passed through a country where everyone was given a pet to raise and care for. It was to encourage empathy. They taught travelers their ways as well, and gave one pet to any traveler passing through.

[A soft sigh.]

I asked for a chicken then... but I killed and ate it once I was outside of the country. Somehow, this... seems to be the one I had then.

Anyone watching her shoulder her way through the motel after completing her post-trial pit stop to her room should know where she's going—and so here she is at the shooting range with her new bow. Arrows fire into the target's center, into whatever poor woodland creatures wander nearby or fly overhead. More than once, one arrow splits another already lodged into the target, but somehow it only seems to annoy Clarisse, whose scowl just deepens.

She shifts enough to acknowledge anyone else's approach, but without turning away from her shot.

Thunk, thunk, thunk, one arrow and then the next, always hitting their mark. But if she's getting anything out of this, it doesn't show.]

[It's late when Millium wanders in, still puffy-eyed and looking exhausted.

She wasn't going to come here. She was just going to try to forget about it and get some sleep, try to get her eyes – mouth – her entire face from hurting. Hoping for her chest or stomach to stop is out of the question, she knows that well enough.

But no, her brain won't let her. So here she is.]

...Nine.

So you’re trying to raise it like you were taught? Or are you going to eat it again?

I'm not sure what to do with it. The diner gives me better food, and some of the others don't seem to want it dead. [Like Sakura and probably Millium.]

Having to feed it all the time is a little tiresome, though.
