Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

We have three people with more or less normal human capability: Keith, Mr. Wayne, and Clarisse.

The other two who have superhuman strength are Miss Olympia and Mr. Eucliffe.

If the person who attacked Bakugo fought back, do any of their abilities match the damage that was done? Especially to the pews and the candlestick.

And if not... We might need to examine their motives and the likelihood of them managing to kill him without getting hurt in spite of all the damage done to the chapel.

We think the candlestick is what caused the wound on Bakugou-san's chest, right? Isn't that what caused it to break, or was there some other reason?

Also, was there an actual candle anywhere?

If the candlestick caused the wound, then maybe the culprit threw it? Like a throwing knife or a javelin.

Mr. Dabi mentioned it, but that would mean they have good aim. It was close to the heart.

I was thinking it was fired like an arrow. That's why it was shallow and why the candlestick was broken in the first place.

But why would anyone carry a bow without arrows?

If she used arrows, everyone would immediately think it was her.

[oh my god forget ALL OF HER ANGRY ARGUING FROM BEFORE this is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS]

It's not a matter of what I can and can't do, it's about archery in general. If there isn't anything nocked properly to the string, all the force of your draw goes into the bow itself. Great way to get your bow broken. I haven't seen the candlestick up close, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been able to nock onto the string properly.

If you need me to do something, I'll try. Like I already told everyone else though? I don't have any real magic here.

You mentioned one that you can still use, didn't you? Can you show us that?

I tried one of them once already. The other one is basically the same thing, but I haven't tried it here. No idea if it'll even work. [ Over here! ]

What do you mean when you say "basically the same thing?"

As far as being here goes? They're the same thing. They just change what I look like and nothing else.

[ Technically different magic but functionally the same in Cartesio, basically. ]

Your superhuman strength... well, would it be correct to say it's because of your construction?

[carbide]

Yes. My strength is not constrained by the need to build muscles, like a human.

What about your energy weaponry? Is that something you could demonstrate here?

[carbide]

[Olympia's left eye glows faintly red, then flickers out.]

It has been disabled since my arrival here.
