Indeed. I raised him from a chick, after he was revived from a fossil. [A pause] That is an exceptional case-only a few such fossil Pokemon are currently known.

So, not all Pokemon look like him?

Certainly not! They have all kinds of different Types and appearances. Even though my team is made up of Flying-types, there is plenty of variation between them as well.

Okay, that sounds pretty great. [pokemon are animals, then] Are Flying-types your favorite?

[A wider smile.] Indeed they are. They have a grace about them when taking to the air that you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I've developed plenty of tactics based on their agility and ease of movement.

[Gerard looks up from his bowl at the comment about "grace," ice cream dripping down his snout. He sticks out a tongue to awkwardly lick it up.]

I’m still a bit confused about what you use Pokemon for. [it almost sounds like they’re used... to fight? but why?]

Oh, they can help out in all kinds of construction and labor work when they're not battling each other. Though even those Pokemon enjoy a good battle just to help them train and get stronger.

[ah... now Osomatsu was beginning to see a bigger picture. so Pokemon not only battled, they lliked to battle. and they also helped out humans. he looks sort of dreamy for a moment]

The animals back at home don’t do anything like that. We have pets, an’ we can train ‘em ... but they don’t battle or help out in the workplace.

Really? It must be harder for you then-many Pokemon are much stronger, or faster, or more agile. So you have only humans doing things such as construction work?

Only humans, and big machines.

That seems strange indeed. But I suppose any world without Pokemon must be like that.

The rest of my team is still with the Sergeant, according to him. So depending on how things go, you may yet get the chance.

I think he may be more fond of animals in general. He did seem happy to receive and give affection to Gerard, after all.

Fond of... animals. [HMMMMM] I wonder if we could use that against him, in some way.

He wanted one of Gerard's feathers. Apparently they have facilities for genetic analysis here. Though since he refused to offer me anything for it, I did not give him any.

Indeed. Though it seems like he didn't actually want anyone to know. It appeared to just slip out.

Iiiinteresting. [he rubs his chin, thinking] I wonder if that lab has anything that could help us get home, and that’s why it’s still hidden.

Likely both for that reason, and perhaps to preserve the appearance of the town as well. A laboratory might not fit in this time period as well.
