Fourth Week

A second murder shook the town of Cartesio. Clarisse's ambush plan ended with Katsuki Bakugou's death. Now what?

Nothing to be done other than continuing their life and watch what happens. After two weeks, after the deaths they have seen, it's hard to think there's a way out. The only option is to wait for the right chance to turn the tables and see a weak point in the Sergeant's plans -- and hopefully not see any murders.

The townspeople's attitude towards the tourists soured even more. The destruction of the church was much worse than anything they had seen so far, and they ran out of patience. People who in the past were nice and wanted nothing more than to make the tourists happy now aren't afraid of saying to their faces what's what. Random pedestrians shout at the visitors, telling them to stop being criminals. Although there are a few who have more patience than the rest, general opinion is clear:

The tourists are nuisances, to say the least.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

And that's not what you're doing.

[Very convinced.]

It's not. I'm having a normal conversation.

[burgerprince]

A perfectly normal conversation. With ghosts and a sword.

[marmoron]

Yeah? Sometimes people need a little encouragement to start talking.

[burgerprince]

Of course.

[A slow nod.]

Bet the ghosts are real scared of getting stabbed.

[marmoron]

[100% seriously:]

They seem to respond pretty well to intimidation.

[burgerprince]

Very intimidating, threatening to kill them again.

[marmoron]

I didn't make the rules.

[burgerprince]

[Jughead just kind of closes his eyes for a moment.]

Are you just not getting that a ghost would have no reason to be afraid of being stabbed?

[marmoron]

[Calmly, clearly, like he's explaining something really obvious.]

They don't have any reason to respond to yelling at the jukebox either, Jughead.

[A little more seriously:]

Besides. If Clarisse picks up a knife and starts swinging at me, I'd rather have the sword in my hand than not.

[burgerprince]

We have to worry about her stabbing us from the grave now, too?

[Will Clarisse ever leave them alone?]

[marmoron]

[That gets a bit of a dry laugh.]

If anyone could find a way to do that, it'd be her. If she wanted to inconvenience you enough.

[There's just the faintest note of respect there between the lines.]

[burgerprince]

We can put it on her grave.

[He holds up a hand, spreading it in the air.]

Clarisse: even death couldn’t stop her.

[There’s the tiniest bit of fondness, under however many layers of irony.]

[marmoron]

[Keith grins.]

Not a bad legacy to leave after three weeks.

[He'll turn back to face the blood stains on the wall.]

Where do you think people go when they die?

[burgerprince]

[Jughead shrugs.]

The morgue. Then the ground. Then, probably nowhere at all.

[marmoron]

They can't have gone nowhere, they're still here.

[Though "nowhere" is arguably an apt description for Cartesio, isn't it...]

[burgerprince]

People tend to die when they’re killed, Keith. They can’t be here.

[marmoron]

[There's a pause, Jughead might notice Keith's grip around that sword f his is tightening.]

Look. I know it sounds crazy, but it's not. .

When Shiro died, his physical body disappeared but his quintessence was inside the Black lion. He - he talked to me. Told me what to do. You can't tell me that it's impossible for the dead to still be with us in some form when I've seen it happen before.

[burgerprince]

[It does sound crazy, but hey, Jughead's trying, and it's no crazier than anything else Keith's said. It kind of makes sense, given everything, in a way.]

That's not something where I come from. Cultural differences.

[A shrug.]

But maybe it's not like that here. This place is weird enough, I guess I wouldn't be surprised.
