Fourth Week

A second murder shook the town of Cartesio. Clarisse's ambush plan ended with Katsuki Bakugou's death. Now what?

Nothing to be done other than continuing their life and watch what happens. After two weeks, after the deaths they have seen, it's hard to think there's a way out. The only option is to wait for the right chance to turn the tables and see a weak point in the Sergeant's plans -- and hopefully not see any murders.

The townspeople's attitude towards the tourists soured even more. The destruction of the church was much worse than anything they had seen so far, and they ran out of patience. People who in the past were nice and wanted nothing more than to make the tourists happy now aren't afraid of saying to their faces what's what. Random pedestrians shout at the visitors, telling them to stop being criminals. Although there are a few who have more patience than the rest, general opinion is clear:

The tourists are nuisances, to say the least.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

Okay, since you brought this up, I should ask a thing or two about recent developments.

[He takes out a notepad, ready to write]

Why did this Keith individual try to distract two police officers on the line of duty to cover up three potential crime scenes in this very motel?

[...yay?]

About that...

None of us are sure what caused the blood. Actually, when I first saw it, I thought someone was trying to threaten us. None of us were injured, but we still found blood and scratch marks on the walls...

Except... The people of this town are kind, and they don't like property damage. I can't imagine any of you trying to intimidate us, even if we're disliked.

[And, looking over to Millium.]

I remember when they first appeared, I heard Millium screaming. By the time I got to the lobby, she was hiding in her blankets terrified. So the short answer is... All of us are just as confused about this as you are. If it's Keith, he probably thought it was better to try to alert you to what was going on than bring up that someone trashed his room.

[cartesio]

Wouldn't it make more sense one of you did that? If you say it was none of us in the town, then that only leaves you all as the remaining option -- the people living in this motel.

[He crosses his arms]

By the way, that was a terrible decision. I almost had a heart attack when I entered, tried to find someone here to do an interview, and found that door ajar, with blood visible from where I was standing. That's not how you alert someone.

[Guess now you know who tattled to the police]

[doublelammy]

Umm...

[Witness testimony!!]

I'm a pretty light sleeper. The blood wasn't on my wall when I went to bed, I didn't hear anything weird over the course of the night, and it was there when I woke up.

That's why I said I think my room is haunted...

[quickpersuader]

Normally it would, but I'm not so sure about that, either. It doesn't explain where the blood came from, for one - I haven't noticed anyone with any injuries, and it would be hard to hide with how much was used. I haven't seen any reports of mysteriously injured animals or citizens, either. It's... bizarre.

[Fushigi mystery.]

--Wait. You came here earlier without making sure we knew to stay for interviews...?

[That's kinda rude sir.]

[cartesio]

A reporter has to take the opportunities he sees. With everything that's been happening around here, staying in one place for too long's the right way to miss a potential story.

Besides, I'm following up on it now. Do you mean to call me unprofessional?

[quickpersuader]

More like... A few of us have been trying to track you down so we could tell you what was going on. I just wish I'd known so I could have been there.

[Anyway.]

Did you have more questions?

[cartesio]

More than a few. I could start by asking if you had any involvement in the theft of the cinema's prized sign?

[quickpersuader]

[A nod.]

That was more or less all of us. Like the others said, it was because of instructions we received from the Sergeant. None of us had been in the cinema before, so without his instructions, there wasn't any way for us to know what the sign even looked like before then.

[cartesio]

[ He frowns and takes a few notes. Looks skeptical. ]

The Sergeant again... He's told you to do these things, and you just comply?

[quickpersuader]

[Kino nods at Osomatsu's contribution.]

None of us are sure how we got there to begin with. We just woke up inside with popcorn on our laps already...

The only thing I can think of that would allow that [besides magic] is drugging us. Either way, we weren't in much of a position to refuse. If he can get all of us to the cinema without realizing it, he could do just about anything to us while we were unaware.

We couldn't even find the cinema again for a while after he took us there. We would have had to have been pretty addled, if not unconscious.

[cartesio]

[ Again, from his point of view all of this seems like wild stories. He writes more, but with that frown still in place. ]

All this in consideration, you've still not felt it right to return what you've taken?

[quickpersuader]

I'm not even sure what he did with the sign in the end. If any of us knew where it was, I'm sure it would have been returned by now, especially by the ones helping with the chapel.

Returning a sign is much easier than rebuilding all of that.

[cartesio]

...You're saying the Sergeant supposedly has it?

[ He raises an eyebrow. ]

[quickpersuader]

I'm saying I have no idea. He might have it, or he might have taken it to someone else. He might even have destroyed it by now.

...If you do decide to investigate the Sergeant, though, please be careful. It might sound crazy, but we've done terrible things because we're more afraid of resisting him than we are of being hated by everyone here. And...

[A glance Sakura's way.]

...Being hated is taking a toll on some. So they're trying to do what they can in spite of it.

[cartesio]

[ He looks at Kino for a long few moments, up from his notes. ]

I've been doing this job for a long, long time. I think I'm going to do it for much longer, miss.

[ It's the closest thing to a reassurance possible. He still doesn't seem to believe her, but it's a nice sentiment, at least. One that he can reply to. ]

[odasaku]

[ miss? ]

[yeah hang on what? Kino's a girl?

...

Guess Millium's more into girls than she thought, who knew.

Oh, wait, hang on, she's supposed to be crying. Right. Hiccup sob et cetera.]

[why are you all standing around looking confused]

[quickpersuader]

[Kino does not react in the slightest to the pronoun.]

...That's my hope too, sir.

[And her voice is sincere.]

Should we add that we just... appeared there, too? Like, we were all doin’ our own things and then we were transported there. Which is why we were so nervous tonight.
