Fourth Week

A second murder shook the town of Cartesio. Clarisse's ambush plan ended with Katsuki Bakugou's death. Now what?

Nothing to be done other than continuing their life and watch what happens. After two weeks, after the deaths they have seen, it's hard to think there's a way out. The only option is to wait for the right chance to turn the tables and see a weak point in the Sergeant's plans -- and hopefully not see any murders.

The townspeople's attitude towards the tourists soured even more. The destruction of the church was much worse than anything they had seen so far, and they ran out of patience. People who in the past were nice and wanted nothing more than to make the tourists happy now aren't afraid of saying to their faces what's what. Random pedestrians shout at the visitors, telling them to stop being criminals. Although there are a few who have more patience than the rest, general opinion is clear:

The tourists are nuisances, to say the least.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

Well... to be fair, everything under the old schoolhouse were a bunch of mazes connected by this ancient elevator and there was a Divine Knight sleepin' in the bottom of it.

...Why did they build a school house over it?

To keep it hidden, I think. I mean, you don't want just anyone wanderin' down in there to try to clear the trials.

If it were just some random shmuck, they'd prolly die horribly. So, y'know, make it look unassuming so no one thinks to look farther.

There were trials inside?

[The mystery deepens.]

Yup, yup.

Every month we went through and another floor opened up. They'd be all these crazy mazes with weird puzzles and strong monsters at the end. Sometimes we'd find these weird doors with glowing symbols and even bigger, stronger monsters would come out.

At the very end, the last trial we went through, the whole schoolhouse started glowin' creepy blue n' we went in to check it out, and at the end there was this weird grey battlefield fulla weapons with this giant wispy black monster thingy. So we beat the snot out of it, naturally, n' then the schoolhouse stopped glowing and we found Valley.

And what is Valley?

Valimar, the Ashen Knight! [my canon is so anime help] Divine Knights are these big ol robots that look kinda like big clunky mechanical people, and there's all sorts of legends about 'em. Valley was sleepin' under the schoolhouse, and when we helped Rean get through it all, he got picked as Valley's Awakener and now he can pilot Valley!

[it's a fucking gundam]

Wait... so he can pilot a machine that looks like a giant person?

[As opposed to... whatever Lammy is.]

Yep, yep~!

[Airgetlam is... Airgetlam. And Valimar is a gundam in not so many words, because this canon.

How does that work?

Ummm... I've never actually been inside, so I dunno! I just know that Valley puts Rean n' sometimes Celine in this magic bubble thingy and then woosh, they get magically sucked inside, and then Valley's fighting just like he's Rean!

We even made him a big ol' sword just like Rean's and everything!

[THANKFULLY, ONLY ONE OF REAN'S CASTMATES HAS EVER BEEN INSIDE VALIMAR and it's not Millium.]

I've never been to a country with technology like that before.

[And won't until Sigsawa decides he wants mecha in his novel because why the fuck not.]

Ehe... it's not exactly common, even in mine. ...Well, it's gettin' more common, with the Soldat units n' whatnot, but the Divine Knights?

They're the stuff of legends. Even the Soldats are just real sad copies in comparison.

So... like lost technology?

[doublelammy]

Yeah, pretty much.

Most things from back in the Dark Ages are pretty lost to us now.

How did that happen?

[doublelammy]

Um... we don't really know.

It was a long, long, long time ago, n' we don't really have records of a lot of that stuff. The Great Collapse hit Zemuria n' nearly wiped everybody out... we think we used t' have a lot of technology n' stuff before that, but the Great Collapse pretty much wiped it out too.

The... Great Collapse?

[Though the name itself is pretty indicative, now isn't it?]

Do you know what that was, or...?

[doublelammy]

[She shakes her head no.]

No one does. There's a lotta people that think it was the Goddess testing us, though. Destroying so much of what we worked for, so she could see how we'd build back.

Sounds like you built a lot already.

[doublelammy]

Sure, but the Great Collapse was centuries ago. We've had time.

We're still not up near anythin' like the Divine Knights though. Even our attempts to copy 'em aren't anywhere near as good.

[quickpersuader]

Unless the original builders came up with those designs overnight... You're probably doing well enough for yourselves.

[doublelammy]

We do what we can. Things get bigger n' better n' crazier every day.

Kinda afraid to see what kinds o' stuff's gonna be out there when I get home. Two months is definitely enough for some beta stuff to be out, at least.

[That just has her eyes narrowing, looking away from Millium.]

We haven't even gotten to the two month limit yet...

[Ugh. She wants out of here already.]
