WEEK 0 — ARRIVAL

Week 0: Arrival
When you wake up you immediately feel something’s off. You sit on the bed and find it’s not your bed, and this isn’t your room either. You seem to be in a rather normal-looking motel room. To your side there’s a trunk, if you open it you’ll find a military uniform, the key to your room, a set of rules and a debit card. Don’t lose those items! Or do lose the rules, you'll find a brand new copy the next day under your pillow. There’s also a calendar on the wall, you can see today’s date. The year is unreadable, but the month and day are very clear:

March 28th

There it says ‘Meet the Sergeant at the Lodge, 9:00 AM’. There’s also a circle around March 31st, with the word ‘END’ scrawled there.

For now leaving your motel room would be a good choice. When you reach the lobby, you see the receptionist’s desk— no one’s manning it. There’s a rack filled with maps, marking several locations in the town.

There are also many strangers here – and you’re one more. For now it may be a good idea to take a map and explore the town.

After all, looks like you’re stuck here in the boonies for a while.

[ and all named after the seven chakras, as expected. ]

I would say you're from a very religious place. Though spiritual might be a better word. [ he very obviously studies serph's appearance, eyeing his light hair the longest. ] Did they perhaps keep you locked up at home? You don't seem to know much.

Religious? [ As ridiculous as it may sound given his mention of the church, Serph's never encountered that word before. Spirtual he does know however, even if he mostly associates it with the dead being cleansed of their karma when they die. ]

Sounds like something Sera would know. [ The inquisitive gazed is matched, curiously mostly directed at Matoba's hair as well. ] No, I'm the leader of the Embyron—what's left of it at least. I'm Serph.

Mm, no, don't worry about it. If you don't know what it is, then you probably didn't need to know in the first place.

[ and it's too troublesome to explain. ]

No last name, hm? [ similar to youkai? or merely a title. though he supposes westerners tend to go by first names. ] Well, I'm Seiji Matoba. You can pick whichever. You do look a little older than me, though I'm not entirely sure. You don't look old enough to be a leader. Then again, I look quite young, too.

Two names... I'll call you Seiji since you said that one first. [ Simple enough, he thinks as the correlation with age goes unnoticed. ]

You're not the first one who's told me that, but I'm different from most leaders.

How so, Serph-san?

[ ...san? Why does that sound so familiar? He shrugs his shoulders and settles on answering the question. ]

Most of the other leaders are older than me—stronger too even if they don't usually fight on the front lines. But I'm faster than any of them, and I've never let my people fight alone. That usually confuses them, as a tribe which loses it's leader ceases to exist.

[ ah, tribes. that explains some of how little he knows of things. ]

Well - they've lost a leader now, haven't they... Since you're stuck here in this place with the rest of us.

[ ...ah. ]

Yeah if the Junkyard still even exists anymore.

It's better to think it does, if you need it to. After all, while you're here, you won't know for sure. Use that to your advantage.

Ah, not just because of...this. The last thing I remember is the world falling apart.

[ But maybe being optimistic isn't a bad thing, still. ]
