WEEK 0 — ARRIVAL

Week 0: Arrival

When you wake up you immediately feel something’s off. You sit on the bed and find it’s not your bed, and this isn’t your room either. You seem to be in a rather normal-looking motel room. To your side there’s a trunk, if you open it you’ll find a military uniform, the key to your room, a set of rules and a debit card. Don’t lose those items! Or do lose the rules, you'll find a brand new copy the next day under your pillow. There’s also a calendar on the wall, you can see today’s date. The year is unreadable, but the month and day are very clear:

March 28^th
There it says ‘Meet the Sergeant at the Lodge, 9:00 AM’. There’s also a circle around March 31st, with the word ‘END’ scrawled there.

For now leaving your motel room would be a good choice. When you reach the lobby, you see the receptionist’s desk— no one’s manning it. There’s a rack filled with maps, marking several locations in the town.

There are also many strangers here – and you’re one more. For now it may be a good idea to take a map and explore the town.

After all, looks like you’re stuck here in the boonies for a while.

[Well. Even if there are clear instructions that they're supposed to meet some Sergeant at a Lodge, Faba's at the front desk ringing the bell impatiently. Certainly, he's not actually expecting much, but he does... well, it's probably an attempt at passive aggressive muttering, but it's very definitely intended to be audible.]

What deplorable customer service... I'll have to write up some complaints.

[...so after he's cast enough shade, he begins... searching for things. It's not entirely apparent what he's looking for, but he's in places like the laundry room and storage, getting more frantic as he goes...]

What could they possibly have done with them? How am I supposed to be the last line of defense without my Pokemon?

Didja know? They say the definition of insanity is doin' the same thing over and over again and expecting something different to happen.

I'm not really expecting anything different at this point. It's clear no one is actually going to attend to us, so I'm just releasing my frustrations at this point.

[Gotta love kids! They totally don't ruin all of Faba's well-laid plans or anything!]

I guess. [She puts her hands behind her head, eyeing him curiously.] I dunno, it just seems to me like you'd get more done on that front too by just... I dunno, yelling? Throwing the bell? Smashing the counter?

[She shrugs and drops her arms back to her sides.]

But whatever. Hey, though. What's up with the googly eyes?

Hmph. I'm not uncouth enough to do that. If they don't want to follow the standard procedures, that's their problem.

And it's the latest fashion trend. I doubt very much that you have the maturity to keep up with that sort of thing, though. Perhaps you will when you're older.

[Says the kid in a school uniform and a kitty hat with pins everywhere. FASHION.]

In terms of everyday street fashion, perhaps. I'm talking about high fashion.

[Does she know that's not what high fashion means...? It's... unclear.]

What is even the point of all this? I do hope this Sergeant bothers to provide a satisfying explanation.

[At least he stopped. Being dragged out here was bad enough, although this guy is fussy and it might be amusing.]

What are you looking for, a surprise party?

[It's a bit difficult to miss all the rustling and commotion as Will passes by the storage room. He pokes his head in, overhearing Faba muttering to himself...]

Ah, I wouldn't waste your time digging through there. I checked for my own belongings and came up empty-handed.

Hmph. I suppose I should've expected that they wouldn't make it easy to get my Pokemon back, but it's still frustrating.

[There's that word again! Will can't help but voice his curiosity.]

Do they not train them where you're from, or...?

It's actually a case of unfamiliarity. This is the first time I've ever heard of them. What are they, exactly?

You don't know what Pokemon are? That's extremely odd. Even the Ultra Recon Squad were familiar with them...

Well, in any case, they're non-human creatures of various kinds with various sorts of abilities.
