Week 5: Trial

Last time it was at dawn. Now it's at sunset. The Sergeant gave everyone plenty of time to investigate and gather evidence, and now that everyone entered the courtroom, he slammed his gavel.

"I can sense a few of you are feeling rather hostile. Remember you're in a courtroom, and you're being watched by everyone in town"

People's opinions of the visitors are already very low, but there's no need to feed them further with a brawl in the courtroom -- or so the Sergeant thinks. There are more podiums draped in black now. Five more people died, seventeen people are alive. How many will be left once the trial is over?

"This time we have three victims in total. Millium Orion, Cian Reikado, and Azura were the unfortunate victims last night, and now you shall debate and decide who is responsible for this.

These are your suspects. Vote for as many as you think are responsible for these crimes"

Let the trial begin.

So um... I found the wire clippers a little ways away from Cian-san's body. If. If anyone was still wondering about that.

As for the note... I'm very sorry I took off with it! G-Given the circumstances, it was rather shocking to be alone there with the person it was addressed from. If we're doing a handwriting check I can pass it off to whoever wants it. But it said, "Millium - Please meet me on the roof at six. I have something important to discuss. - Keith"

...There's no way he'd be stupid enough to sign it himself if he actually killed her.

That's true... but anyone would like to avoid being implicated if possible. It looks like I should have been more careful, myself.

I think the bigger question is why it was found on Cian-san's body and not Millium-san's.

If she took the note...

[A beat.]

You don't think the two of them got into a fight, do you?

... it's possible. Her ribs were broken rather badly and she was bruised all over. Lammy could have done that, if say, Cian-san lured her there and snatched the note back. Millium-san would figure out pretty fast that she was in danger if the wrong person was present.

I don't want to think that's what happened. Cian seemed... too gentle for that.

[She pauses, thinking.]

Maybe what's more likely is that Millium realized the note was suspicious and wanted to take someone else there with her for safety, and they both got overpowered.

Hmm. No offense to Cian-san, but do you really think she would be the first person Millium-san would turn to as a bodyguard? Like you said, she's too gentle. She would have been better off asking Oda-san or something.

I guess not. But... They were around the same area. That can't be a coincidence.

[She frowns.]

Other than those two reasons, can you think of any others that they could have been together, taking the note into account?

What if Cian was the one who encountered Millium? She might have decided to come along of her own accord.

...You mean if Cian was awake in the motel for some reason and saw Millium heading to the roof? I guess she could have gotten worried and followed her.

[He nods.] After all, there's no incentive to kill more than one person.

Right. And... If whoever it was saw both of them come up there, they wouldn't have much of a choice but to take both of them down.

[Solemn nod.] Did anyone look at both of the bodies? We should try and compare the size and shape of their bruises.

[ piping in here, but looks at the Sergeant straight in the face: ]

Actually... um. [ SHE HATES THIS IDEA BUT ] If someone killed more than one person and got away with it, would the motive still just be to bring back one person, or would it count the amount of people they... killed?

[ it's bad questions o'clock i guess ]

The act itself is what counts, not the number of victims.

[In other words, even if a person killed ten people, they'd only get one person back]

[Okay so he didn't mishear you on the roof, then. Now that we're all on the same page:]

Okay, before anyone asks. I didn't fucking write that. I wouldn't write that, I wouldn't talk to Millium all formal like that. I don't know why that note exists!
