Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

Is it usually this quiet in here?

[ An Old-Fashioned, haha. ...No, he doesn't seem to get any kind of joke and just goes about making one. ]

Oh, I wouldn't say this is quiet. Just laid-back. Some folk need a place open later, and that's what I give them. But, uh, yeah, this is kind of our usual.

Huh. Do you get people from out of town very often? Is there a highway nearby?

Nope! Really, y'all are the first tourists we got here in as long as I can remember.

Huh. So if there's not a lot of tourists... how does the local economy, you know. Be an economy?

[cartesio]

Well, we don't need tourism to function. We're a real self-sufficient place. Make our own stuff, sell our own stuff. All that.

Huh! Good for you guys. It's very... idyllic here. Very small town America. Is this America? Everyone's from a different place, I'm trying to keep track.

[cartesio]

[ He laughs, and slides over her drink. ]

Indeed, miss. America it is. Nevada, to be precise.

Nevada? [ a light laugh as she takes a drink ] Nowhere near the nuclear test site, I hope.

Ohhh nothin' like that. That'd mess with our crops, and you know what Cartesio's got goin' for it? Crops.

Crops, huh? What kinds of crops?

[cartesio]

Well... All kinds, really. We got really fertile land.

Really? Sounds nice, how far out of town is the farmland?

[cartesio]

Uhhh... Gee, you'd have to ask one of the more farm-type people that, honestly. Not...that far, I don't think.

I'll have to check it out. Tourist stuff and all. What are some other places I should check out while we're all here?

[cartesio]

Well, Lucille's diner's the best place in town to get a bite. Besides here, of course. The casino's always a nice place to spend time. Owner's a good buddy of mine. 'Course, if you like sitting 'round, the cinema's a nice relaxing place to see the latest films.

[ ...You may notice, if you've looked around town a bit? The casino, the cinema--neither of them are around town. ]
