Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

[Woops, someone is not very familiar with honorifics.]

I'm from [Insert wherever the heck he's from. VLD doesn't specify, but presumably small town America. Point being, he doesn't sound particularly attached to it.]

You're a long way away from home.

Is it okay if I just call you that...? I usually don't call someone without the honorifics... not even Syaoran-kun. [ She doesn't mind, but she wants to double check so that she isn't being rude. ] Mmhm... but even if I am, there's still a lot of nice people here that have helped me out.

[marmoron]

I'd prefer just plain Keith, yeah.

[Not that he has a serious problem with her insisting on a honorific if she has to, but to his ears it's just sounding like a nickname and he doesn't really want a nickname.]

Aren't you scared?

[He AT LEAST has the tact not to point out that little girls like Sakura are probably the easiest targets for murder should anyone try, but he sure as hell thinking it.]

[clearities]

I'll call you Keith, then. [ She can respect that, to say the least. But when he asks if she's scared or not, her expression seems to drop, just a little. ] I am. But... if I acted scared all the time, then I won't be able to find a way out of this place. I won't be able to help everyone.

[marmoron]

[For just a second, his expression wavers a little -- like he has something to say, but thinks better of saying it.]

You're getting ahead of yourself a little. You have to be able to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.

[clearities]

It's okay. [ She smiles brightly, trying her best to be reassuring. ] I'll be alright-- I can take care of myself! I'm a middle schooler now, after all.

[marmoron]

[He has little room to judge based on that alone. By the time middle school rolled around, Keith was also doing just that -- taking care of himself. Wasn't doing it with a flippant smile though.]

Can you even defend yourself against someone trying to kill you.

[clearities]

[ And that serious remark is one that makes her smile fade a little bit, her emerald eyes looking at Keith a little more seriously. ] I might not be able to do hand to hand combat like Syaoran-kun or my onii-- [...] my big brother. But I won't let anyone to kill me. I'll run as fast as I can if I have to. I'll find a way to protect myself if I have to. Because even if I don't have my magic, or the cards with me... I don't want someone to do something that they'll absolutely regret in the end.

[marmoron]

[He probably shouldn't be having this conversation with a scared middle schooler. Shouldn't be making a kid defend themselves when nobody here owes him or anyone else here, but Sakura reaches that last part and his eyebrow shoots up.]

....what kind of reason is that? You know there are plenty of people out there who are remorseless killers right?

[clearities]

[ Her answer is immediate: ] I don't want to believe that.

[marmoron]

Just because you don't want to believe it doesn't mean it's not true.

[Don't argue, don't argue, don't argue. Keith takes a deep breath, turning his attention back to the scrap metal he's collected. Spotting another rusted knife handle sticking out of the pile, he gives it a pull to get it loose.]

You have people to go back home to, right? Think about them and let them be your motivation for surviving this place, not some misguided sense that you're doing your attacker a favor.

[clearities]

... [ A part of her wonders if he's met someone like that in the past, but she speaks nothing of it. ] I do. [ She won't lie. She was never good at it to begin with. ] And... I will. I'll make it out with everyone else, too.
