Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

Or maybe people oughta be a little more sharp around me? Even if you have all the stabbies and shooties in town, that doesn't mean you should underestimate people just 'cause they look little n' harmless.

[That's not a threat, either, and she sounds as cheerful as ever, but... sure is a vaguely unsettling way to word it if it's supposed to be advice.]

[Speaking of the stabbies, Keith moves away from the cash register. Now that all of this stuff is his, he's making a few choice selections to arm himself with before they get to work on packaging the lot of it.]

You saying you're a double agent for the Sergeant?

[Her words don't register like a threat, no, but they do remind him that her guestbook entry had mentioned some experience with espionage.]

No. I've been here longer, you really think I like the guy any more than you do? He promised me he'd let me go home, and he lied to me.

I'm just sayin'. You don't trust any of us, but it's not like I know any of you, either, y'know? I wanna get home just as bad as anyone else here.

It'd be real dumb of you to go n' get yourself hurt or worse just 'cuz you thought "oh, they're safe" about anyone. Not just me.

[He would be making some snide comment about putting Milium on the top of his (surprisingly) nonexistent watch list, since she's starting to get all lecture-y, but the very first thing she has to say sucks the nascent humor out of him.]

What did you do to get him to promise something like that?

[It may just be a general "I promise if you'll only be here for two months" type deal that the asshole gave all of them, but her annoyance seems a little more personal there. Keith has his eyes narrowed, attention fully back to her.]

Huh? Nothin' special. Nothin' he didn't ask us to do. It was the same dealie for me as it was everyone else last week.

We do what he wants, he sends us home. N' he did... for most people.
