Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

I mean, pie is pretty much always gonna be good, but this place's especially!

The counter lady said it's made with love. I guess love's pretty delicious!

That's one way of putting it.

[Kino takes a small bite, savoring the taste this time around.]

I'm used to portable rations, so whenever I'm in a place with restaurants, eating good food is a treat.

[Portable rations are truly the curse of traveling.]

[Millium looks horrified.]

Oh, no... You poor thing...

One of the downsides to traveling. But on the other hand, maybe that's why I appreciate food so much when I get the chance to try something new.

Do you mostly like sweets?

[doublelammy]

I think you can appreciate food even if you're not eating cardboard all the time...

[Millium makes a face. She knows rations, apparently.

But oh, hey, question, and she perks up.]

Ehehe, yeah. When I do a good job on missions or when Claire and Lechter and Rean come back from someplace new, they usually bring me back snacks! And I used to get Jusis to buy me stuff all the time back in school.

[quickpersuader]

I like them, too. [If eating the pie didn't give that off.] There was one country I went to that piled up cream crepes like a mountain on your plate. Even I could barely finish it alone.

[doublelammy]

[Millium's eyes practically sparkle at the description.]

How do you keep finding countries that are basically Heaven...?

[She's so easy to please.]

I wouldn't call that country heaven. Or... maybe just not for certain types of people.

[That country had some particular laws, or rather... lack thereof.]

But I've been to many difficult countries, too. It depends on where you go.

[doublelammy]

Mm, but at least the crepe part sounds really really good...

[Do crepes make up for lawlessness? ...Probably for Millium.]

Ah... you should tell me about all the other places sometime!

[They do appreciate people who can kill. Just not people who actually kill.]

[Kino's got plenty of stories.]

Ehehe. It might be sooner than you think... I think I'm gonna run outta things to do around here sooner rather than later unless more stuff magically pops up.

[That gets a small frown.]

...Yeah. Normally this would be my last day in a country.

[Three days. Only three days.]

[doublelammy]

...Huh? Why's that?

[quickpersuader]

A traveler once told me that three days is just about the right amount of time to learn about a place while still having time to travel to others.

[doublelammy]

So you only ever do three days?

[quickpersuader]

Unless there's something physically stopping me from moving on, like impassible conditions. But that's rare.

I usually try to avoid areas that have harsh winters. If they're clearer during other seasons, I'll travel to them during that time instead.

[doublelammy]

Mmm... there's gotta be exceptions, though. What if you came to a huuuuge country, like the Empire?

[She spreads out her hands to either side to indicate the "hugeness."]

No way three days would get you to know the country. All the parts are way, way different. Like, maybe you could do a couple of the big-name places, stop in Nord, see Crossbell, but all in three days...?

[quickpersuader]

There have been large countries where I spent most of the time traveling... [Including one country that was completely empty and took exactly three days to cross. Fancy that.] In that case, I try to stop in towns or cities along the way where I can talk to locals during my meals and rest.

[doublelammy]

[Another considering hum.]

...Maybe. I still think it'd be hard t' pull off, though.

If I spend too much time in one place, I'll miss out on other places.

That's part of it. Seeing as many countries as I can.

[doublelammy]

I guess.

[Thoughtfully:] How many countries are there?

[quickpersuader]

Too many to count. There's some countries barely anyone even knows of... Some of them I only found because I met other travelers who told me about them.

[doublelammy]

Wow...

[She settles her chin back into her hands.]

When you put it that way, my world feels so tiny compared t' yours. And I know it's really big, 'cause I've only really seen the Empire and that's huge, but yours...

[quickpersuader]

The world is a huge place. It would be impossible to imagine exactly how big it is. And not only that, but it's always, always changing...

One day, if you decide to travel, you might be able to get a glimpse of that too.
