Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

I mean, this place isn't very big and there are way too many of us, so I have very little faith that nobody will find it regardless, but sure.

[She shrugs.]

Keith, right?

[marmoron]

Yeah, that's me. .

[For what it's worth, now that the topic appears to have been dropped, the undertone of annoyance is also dropped.]

You're...Natalie?

[robitussin]

[She nods, even if the flippant way she talks doesn't fade.]

Got it in one. Is this the part where we quiz each other on the weird shit they have written down about us? Or - just yours, I guess. Mine's pretty normal.

[marmoron]

[Hahaha did I say he relaxed? The instant she brings up the possibility of another interrogation session, Keith's back to being prickly.]

No. There's nothing weird about what's been written about me.

[robitussin]

[She notices the reaction, and if anything, it makes her more inclined to dig further in.]

Really? Because a list immediately comes to mind.

[marmoron]

That's nice. I'm not discussing this with you.

[It goes a little more than prickly when she persists. There's tension in his shoulders, a shift in tone from dry sarcasm to humorlessness.]

[robitussin]

Awfully defensive for someone who doesn't have anything weird written about him.

[But she doesn't want to make him that uncomfortable, so she backs down after that, giving a shrug.]

Well, whatever. No skin off my nose.

[marmoron]

[There's a sigh at that. Keith can't fault her or anyone else for their curiosity. He's not unreasonable - there are plenty of valid reasons that people would want to know. But if indulging a stranger's curiosity means talking about things that he well and truly does not want to talk about, then it's not happening.

That said, he's not so obtuse that he can't tell that he's being off-putting.]

It's not - it's nothing personal. .

[A beat.]

Sorry. It's not relevant anyway. We have bigger concerns right now.

[robitussin]

[She gives pause; if anything, the apology throws her off more than his hesitance to tell give her any details.]

Wait, what are you apologizing for?

[marmoron]

[Well great, now he's thrown off, too.]

For - [Being a dick? Ugh forget it. Back to being vaguely prickly.]

Never mind.

[robitussin]

[After a moment, she takes that in stride, giving another shrug.]

You're weird.

[It's more matter of fact than it is mocking, and she moves on quickly.]

I just meant, like... You don't have to apologize or whatever. It's fine.

[marmoron]

[Keith gives her a look -- a mixture of incredulity and skepticism. But eventually, there's a shake of his head.]

I get that a lot.

[WHO KNOWS WHY.]

You're from Earth, too?

[robitussin]

Yeah, that seems like it checks out.

[She tilts her head when he comes to his question, though.]

Uh, yeah. Where else would I be from?
