Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

Yeah, he did, but it wasn't with a taser or anything like that.

He put her in the electric chair and fried her like an egg.

[All of that is said completely calmly, with her hands behind her head like it's casual conversation.]

[A slight frown as he folds his hands.] So perhaps he can only knock you out with the usual electric shock, or he simply wished for the execution to appear more legitimate. He does seem to enjoy playing up his authority.

My guess is that the electric chair works, and he's got some kind of taser or something he can use on us if he wants.

I'm not gonna rule out him having a whole bunch of fancy hurty toys for use on us if we step outta line.

First time I've been bossed around like that by the military, buuuut I guess there's a first time for everything.

[silvertongueheir]

I don't plan on testing his patience yet. [Franciscus nods slightly.] I'm not unfamiliar with having to defer to authority, but I certainly do not acknowledge him as being part of any chain of command that I respect.

[doublelammy]

[Peer...]

Me either, but does it really matter if we respect 'im or not? He's just gonna keep making us do what he wants anyway.

[silvertongueheir]

[Franciscus looks thoughtful.] That's certainly true. I have no desire to provoke any punishment from him for now. But it does make me wonder if he wants respect, or is content with fear.

[doublelammy]

...I wonder.

Are those really that different? You get the same thing, in the end.

[silvertongueheir]

[What a philosophical kid.] You do. But some people prefer one or the other. And I've yet to find a person who wants to be feared by everybody. [Even Humanity's Wake has respect and friendship among their ranks.] Besides, it could be a way to get at him. My first plan [aka Operation Seduce] failed, but I'm not about to give up.

[doublelammy]

I guess.

I dunno, though. A guy like that, who's already so set in his ways – it's gonna be real hard to change his mind.

[Is it philosophy? The way she's talking, it almost sounds like... experience.]

Not that I'm givin' up, either. I wanna get back home as bad as any of you do. I'm just sayin'.

[clearities]

[ Sakura also chimes in to add to this, even though she seems obviously distressed. ] He also said... before he killed Mira-san that "this one time I will take care of this myself". Like... maybe he doesn't usually do those himself.

[silvertongueheir]

[A thoughtful nod.] Perhaps there is someone else responsible for that, who simply hadn't made their appearance yet?

[clearities]

It's possible. But I don't know.

[silvertongueheir]

Perhaps you could ask the Sergeant? He does seem to be more lenient with you.

[clearities]

Eh? [?????] You think so? [ She doesn't believe that's the case in the slightest bit. ] And I don't know... if I'd want to ask that sort of question. [ Sakura isn't sure if she wants to hear the answer. ]

[silvertongueheir]

He did relax his original request for you, after all. [He blinks at her comment. Right...he supposes not every kid is as down for adventure and conspiracy as Liam.] What sort of question would you prefer to ask him, then?

[clearities]

... I still want to know why he's doing this. I want to understand him a lot more. Even if he's a bad person.

[silvertongueheir]

It's likely he has a reason. Most people do. But it may not be a reason we would understand. [His mind drifts to Humanity's Wake.]

[clearities]

If we can't understand it... I want to try to, regardless.

[silvertongueheir]

[That's kind of naive, he thinks. Admirable perhaps, but naive.] Would you be willing to share whatever you learn? Though I understand if you feel secrecy would make it easier to keep his trust.

[clearities]

Um... I would. Unless he really asks me to keep it a secret, like before.

[ She doesn't want to get into any trouble that could harm her, after all. ]

[silvertongueheir]

[He nods.] I understand. Still, I look forward to whatever information you can share.
