Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

Yggdrasil?

[Good for you, Kino. Wouldn't want anyone getting hurt in this murdergame.]

The giant tree that grows in Armoroad. People come from all around the world to explore the maze within.

[The guestbook did state that Kino dislikes killing for a reason.]

I see... What is it like inside?

[Kino is genuinely curious! The world is so interesting.]

At ground level, it's like a forest. Further down among its roots is a cavern that's like being underwater.

Beyond that there are only rumors.

[quickpersuader]

And what do the rumors say?

[carbide]

A century ago there was a great disaster called the Calamity in which part of the city sank beneath the waves. Rumor holds that the "Deep City" still exists and holds technological wonders.

[quickpersuader]

[Technological wonders, huh...]

Is that what everyone's searching for?

[carbide]

Some of them. Others just want to prove themselves against the labyrinth's dangers. It doesn't really matter.

[quickpersuader]

Sounds like traveling.

[People take to the road for all kinds of reasons, whether it's money, glory, or otherwise.]

It's too bad - I've heard of so many interesting places since being brought here. I wish I could see them all myself.

[carbide]

I wouldn't recommend this one. Dangerous.

[And she knows this danger well.]

[quickpersuader]

What kinds of dangers?

[carbide]

Monsters. That's what they call the creatures who live down there, and it's a name well earned. They'll kill anyone they encounter without a thought.

[quickpersuader]

[Monsters, huh...]

Are they all aggressive?

[Which is to say, not like typical wildlife that mostly wants you to stay out of their business.]

[carbide]

It varies. Some attack everything they see, some only everything that gets in their way.

[quickpersuader]

So anyone who wanted to explore would need to be incredibly well-prepared.

[Kino, no.]

[carbide]

[Olympia looks off into the distance.]

I've seen very well-prepared guilds venture into the Labyrinth. I've even helped them myself.

Sometimes, another guild finds their bodies, but most just disappear.

[quickpersuader]

[Ah, well...]

That's too bad. Maybe one day, they'll be able to establish a safe path.

How did you get out safely?

[carbide]

I never go further than I can handle. Even the upper floors are dangerous, but they aren't as dangerous.

[quickpersuader]

Biting off more than you can chew is one way to an early grave...

[And as curious as Kino may be, there's no desire to die before Kino can see so many other places first.]

[carbide]

[Olympia turns back toward Kino, smiling again.]

Yggdrasil certainly provides enough for someone to choke on.

[quickpersuader]

It's something I'll have to go without seeing for now, I suppose.

[There's a smile, and a mild sense of regret. But only mild. Kino knows better than to think there's any chance of seeing all there is to see.

But that's just part of what makes life so wonderful, now isn't it?]

When you traveled Yggdrasil helping guilds, what types of roles did you normally take?

[carbide]

Normally I just showed new guilds some of the basics. I mentioned camping earlier, for instance. You'd be surprised how many people venture into the Labyrinth not knowing how to pitch a tent.

[quickpersuader]

Dying of exposure isn't a great way to go.

[Most deaths aren't, though.]

You see that on the roads sometimes, too.

[carbide]

Travelers are just another kind of adventurers. Some know what they should, some don't.

[She says it as a sweeping declaration that doesn't invite arguments, but she isn't really expecting any.]

[quickpersuader]

You could say that.

[No real arguments here. Kino's not really going to argue semantics.]

Anyway, I should probably get on with the rest of my day. But if you don't mind swapping stories, I'd be interested to hear some of the things you've seen in Yggdrasil in detail.
