Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

You got that right. Everything is homegrown too. We're self-sufficient, here, the good folks of Cartesio.

I see... your persuader- er, gun crafting? Is very advanced.

[...For what Kino's used to, anyway.]

Can you tell me about the Sergeant? Since this town is so isolated, I thought that maybe it would be out of the way of attacks or danger.

[But then again, it's not like Kino has much a grasp on the size of whatever country this is.]

[cartesio]

[ Well, now she frowns. ]

Well... Now that's a bit of a puzzle. We're all pretty insulated, except him... Honestly, he really doesn't mingle much. I don't think I've ever shared a single conversation with the man, not even a hello.

[quickpersuader]

That does sound like one. How long has he been here, if you don't mind my asking?

[cartesio]

[ She hesitates. ]

I...can't really remember. Ain't that funny?

[quickpersuader]

[It sure is.]

Do you remember if he was born here, at least? He just acts very differently from everyone else in town...

[cartesio]

Maybe he was...? Aw, shoot, honey, I really can't recall. No one really comes or goes from here, so...I would think so.

[quickpersuader]

Maybe I'll try asking next time I see him. He... doesn't seem to get out very much.

[Really a shame, that.]

Is there anywhere you would recommend I visit during my stay?

[cartesio]

[ That's a question she seems more comfortable answering. ]

Well, I hope you don't mind an old woman sounding too prideful, if I say to check out my diner.

[quickpersuader]

That's your diner then? I tried the lemon pie. It was delicious!

[This is 100% genuine, Kino does love some good food.]

[cartesio]

[ Her smile returns. ]

Been mine since it's very opening. Good to know that recipe still agrees with folk. Thank you, kindly.

[quickpersuader]

I can't wait to try everything else out. [Because. If Kino's going to be stuck here, there's really no reason not to go through the menu.]

I know you're busy later, but is it okay if I drop by to talk to you again sometime? I'm going to be here for a while, so I'd like to get more recommendations as I see more of the town.

[cartesio]

Well, of course. Like I said, we don't often get tourists here. Why, I bet everyone in town's all happy to see some fresh faces, around these parts.

[quickpersuader]

Thank you.

[And then a short pause as something occurs to the traveler.]

One last question. I saw something happened recently in the newspaper. Is that something I should be worried about? As a traveler, I try to keep aware of my surroundings just in case.

[cartesio]

[ The friendly lady pauses for a moment, appearing distinctly uncomfortable. ]

Oh... No, dearie, don't you worry about all that business. That kind of stuff... It's not like our town.

[quickpersuader]

So it was an unusual circumstance?

[cartesio]

Very unusual. We're a peaceful town, you see.

[quickpersuader]

I understand. That's a relief to hear.

I won't keep you any longer. Thank you for talking with me, Mrs...?

Mitchell. Or you can just call me Lucille.

[quickpersuader]

Lucille. It was very nice meeting you. My name is Kino.
