WEEK 1: April 2nd - April 6th

Peace Week
Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

[Welcome to the peace week! This week there won't be a murder nor a task. Enjoy the peace while it lasts! If you want to contact the Sergeant, please post here!]

Sharp.

[It’s deadpan, but not an insult.]

Thought it’d be a good idea to know who’s getting guns and when. If we find someone with a bullet in their skull it saves a whole lot of work finding out who pulled the trigger.

[Said rather nonchalantly, though he knows it might not be that easy.]

It might be a good place to start.

[Kino is agreeable enough, even if you can practically hear an unsaid "but" at the end.]

[He sighs a little.]

Someone might get their hands on one from someone else or- something, but...

[A resigned hand wave.]

Better than nothing.
quickpersuader: (Blown by)

[Kino gives a nod.]

There's a few of us who were marked for knowing how to use persuaders- guns?

[What is this terminology.]

We might be framed because of that. If someone does turn out to kill, anyway.

Persuaders?

[It's more of a muttered repeat back to himself. That's one thing to call them, he supposes. Dark. He can appreciate it.]

...You have a point.

[He'll note that down for later.]

Do you have any doubts someone will?
quickpersuader: (by the wind)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-04 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Not really.

[It's kind of a given at this point. Kino's being optimistic, not foolish.]

I'd really prefer to avoid it all, if I could. If they wanted killers, they picked a reluctant group.

[Which is interesting, after the Coliseum.]

You think?

[There were people who are good at killing here, but...he supposes that's not really the same.]

Maybe it's the point. [A dry laugh.] Make even the most innocent and righteous break their moral code. Deep.
quickpersuader: (turns into a cloud)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-04 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't think that's always difficult to do...

[Most people aren't as great as they think they are.]

There was another country that made everyone who entered it compete in a tournament for citizenship whether they came as a visitor or not. But most of those people were there because they wanted to fight, with some exceptions.

[He gives a solemn half-nod of agreement to Kino's first point. It's not wrong...and that sucks. A whole lot.]

What, they fought to the death?

[And...wanted to?]
quickpersuader: (into a night when)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-08 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the time. If you surrendered, it was possible to leave the country safely if your opponent accepted it, but a lot of the participants would just kill their opponent anyway. The audience preferred a violent end to the fight too, of course.

[It's all said in an even, matter-of-fact tone.]

[personal profile] burgerprince 2018-10-09 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...Dude.

[Give him a moment for that to sink in.]

That's really fucked up.
quickpersuader: (the same moon)

The king was a bloodthirsty man. Once he claimed the throne from his father and started the tournaments, the country started to attract other bloodthirsty people as well.

[Though even some of the original, peaceful citizens seemed to have gotten used to their new, violent society.]

Spill blood, and the sharks come sniffing. Did everything...just...descend into violence?
quickpersuader: (turns into a cloud)

[personal profile] quickpersuader 2018-10-12 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
More or less. There were still people who entered the country unawares, but a lot of people were attracted by the chance to show off their skills and guarantee themselves a home for it... if they could survive.
