Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

Keep an eye on it. Make sure nobody fishy gets a hold of some of the more obvious weapons around.

[Said like he isn't one of those fishy people. Tomato, tomahto or something.]

There's something wrong with the people in town.

The tavern owner doesn't seem think anything's wrong with the Sergeant.

It's more what he didn't say.

What's the thing that stands out most about the Sergeant to you?

Weird that the folk here don't seem to mention that.

[This is a genuine question. After traveling to so many places, Kino has learned not to make assumptions.]

I wasn't sure if it was something normal for this place.

[marmoron]

We're on Earth [....] the planet, so no. Nobody is supposed to look like that.

I'll take your word for it.

[Kino has seen people die on the spot because they were bitten by a mosquito exactly 50 years prior. There's way too many strange things in the world to ever know for sure.

Plus, you know. All this talk of being in another world.]

So they don't notice it for some reason.

[That's the easiest explanation, though who can really know if it's true or not....]

No, it's -- [Frown.] I pointed it out explicitly.

He didn't say I was crazy or seeing things. He just didn't acknowledge that anything was strange about it at all. I have to talk to more people in town about it. Have you talked to anyone?

[quickpersuader]

The diner owner.

She seemed to have memory problems whenever I brought up the Sergeant, too.

[marmoron]

What did she say?

She couldn't remember how long he's been here, so she assumed he was born here like everyone else.

But... when she talked about it, she seemed confused. The rest of the conversation she was sharp, though.

[marmoron]

The tavern guy said he only noticed the guy around a few days ago. Said that the Sergeant kept to himself a lot. Doesn't seem to have any idea why he's here or what the military is up to.

[quickpersuader]

[Kino nods.]

He's a mystery even to the townspeople here.

[marmoron]

What do you think he's really after?
