Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

[Most normal people would not cheerfully reveal themselves as the instigator of all this if they ever want to be allowed back into the diner. Which Millium does, given how much of their pie she's eaten.

But Millium is not a normal person, nor is she a person with common sense. And so, in response to Gant's laughter, she beams in his general direction and sticks her arm straight in the air to offer a cheery wave, swinging her legs cheerfully from her seat in her booth.

[Well, Gant may be a cop, but in this sort of situation (i.e. one he finds extremely funny) he's no narc, so he gives her a conspiratorial wink and a thumbs up.]

[Well, with that little bit of acknowledgement, Millium plucks her pie plate off of her table and goes and plops herself and her pie across from Gant.

Stranger danger is not a thing to her. Also, she may be worryingly used to strong, square-jawed, self-serving men in positions of power. Just saying.]

Hi! I don't think I've met you yet.

[Well, hey, he's probably not going to bite. Just blame her for murder at some point maybe.]

I don't believe I've met you either, out of a vague sense that you're also "vacationing" here! Gant's the name. Damon Gant.

[That's fair, she'd do the same to him.]

Millium Orion! It's nice t'meetcha.

...Or, well. It would be if this weren't basically the worst "vacation" ever. But, you know!

Well, it could be worse. We could be stuck in a drafty old castle instead of some mildly unsettling town!

[Meanwhile, on the other side of the fourth wall, the last character Kay played in a murdergame weeps softly. Why murder castles, why...]

Eeeeeh... I guess you have a point, there.

[Millium actually looks mildly upset.]

Last drafty ol' castle I saw was fulla ghosts and noooo thank you...!

Right? At least here it's probably too warm for ghosts, so we don't have to worry about that.

[It's hard to tell if he's just humoring her with that remark or if it's a genuine sentiment. That tends to be a problem with Gant.]

Ehh? I didn't know ghosts didn't like it warm.

[She taps her lips thoughtfully.]

Maybe that's why they only come out at night, when it cools down...

They're a bit like fungi, you know. It's got to be dark and moist for proper ectoplasmic formation.

[There are so many directions this can go and I, as the player, am afraid for all of them.]

Yes, of course! It fits together quite nicely, really. Have you ever seen those ghost hunter shows? The boring hunters don't get any bites.

...Shows? [Blink. They don't have televisions yet...] They can hunt ghosts on stage? How do they get them there?

Oh! Guess I shouldn't assume everywhere has television, heheh. They're a way to watch things like stage shows anytime you want.

Oh! Okay! That sounds like a lot of fun...

[They do have some video technology, but it's... not really widespread, yet. JRPG Germany!]

No wonder the ones in Legram wouldn't leave us alone, then. I don't think you coulda called anyone on that trip boring...

Oh, it is! I hope you get to experience it soon, because it's definitely a modern marvel.

But in any case... can you really blame them? It's probably the first company they've had in a very long time.

[Millium quivers her lip at that.]

H-hey, don't make me feel sorry for the scary things...! That's not how this is supposed to work!

Well, if they caused you legitimate problems then they deserved the centuries of boredom, quite frankly. But if they just floated around looking spooky, well, you ought to work on your perceptions, young lady!

Mmm... well, I guess in that case, they deserved it. 'Cause they definitely caused a whole lotta trouble for us n' the townsfolk.

Ah, well, that's definitely a problem, then. You really shouldn't cause real trouble for people even if you're bored.
