April 7th - Welcome Party

Welcome Party
Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

Pachinko

You look like you're not having fun. Is it that bad of a game?

[At least he's interpreting her glancing around as a sign she's not into the game. Moloch had never seen a pachinko before, so he's not sure if it's even supposed to be fun]

[The air is full of the sound of metal clinking against metal as the balls roll about, clunking into the victory chute.]

There are other things I'd rather do.

[Like. Traveling.]

[That gets Moloch to be silent for a moment. He's interpreting that as she'd rather be at home -- or on the road, since she's a traveler. He completely sympathizes with that]

I know. Trust me, I know.

[He feels so bad for you, Kino]

You think this was organized by the Sergeant to distract us or something?

[Moloch wouldn't put it past him, even if he doesn't see how it'd lead to murder]

The Sergeant doesn't seem to like interacting with the townspeople.

[Clink clink clunk.]

It's possible, but I'm not so sure about it.

That's true, but he's supposed to be the guy in charge of this town, isn't he? Hard to believe he wouldn't have a hand in this.

[But not...impossible...he supposes]

Is he in charge of the townspeople, or just us?

Is there really a difference?

[Hard for him to be only in charge of this group, the town would get in the way, he thinks]

There is. He said we should be glad he's on our side. When I asked if he meant there was another side we were against, he wouldn't answer.
