Second Week

Seven days have passed. Quite peaceful days, almost too peaceful. The town has welcomed you, excited to see tourists for the first time in many, many, many years. Some may have liked the peace, others may have been annoyed by it, but it was undeniable Cartesio seemed like such a nice and safe place it was hard to believe you had been told to kill each other.

But the threat is still up in the air. What's more: how much patience does the Sergeant have left?

Every time you take a look into the Lodge, you see the Sergeant. Lately he's looking more and more annoyed. Even though you can't see his face, you can feel he's getting frustrated. How long will it be before he lashes out and does something about these peaceful days?

Nobody in the town could suspect the harrowing times that'd befall Cartesio.

When you wake up on Sunday, you'll find new maps in the map rack and brochures on the table, showing places you hadn't noticed in the town before. Enjoy!

[diner, morning]

[Ah, the curse of an internal clock. Despite pulling a rather late night last night, Millium's up at the same time as ever, and she's curled in the corner of a booth at the diner slowly picking at her pancakes.

Her usual energy is nowhere to be found, and in fact, she's quiet enough for a change that if it weren't for the bright blue head of hair, other patrons might just miss her entirely.

Guess her battery can run dry, after all...]


[park, mid-afternoon]

[Millium can be found on a bench in the park, laying on her back and staring up while flopping one hand slightly over her eyes to shield them from the sun.

She breathes in, then lets it out as half a dramatic sigh and half a straight-up whine.]

This isn't nearly as comfy as Fie always made it look...

[Local overtired cranky infant needs a nap.]


[hunting shop, evening]

[At some point, Millium actually returns to the motel to get a quick nap in, but after that, she's up and about again. She's still not quite as energetic as usual, but she's definitely looking more like herself as she wanders around the hunting shop, tapping at her lips as she examines the merchandise.

This time, her focus seems to be on guns.

She'll look up at anyone who comes over and offer them a little nod in greeting, but other than that, she seems pretty focused on this.]

[ Is.... she okay.... ]

[Just as Sakura pipes up, Millium opens her mouth in a wide yawn, only barely extending the effort to lift a hand to cover her mouth.

It takes her a second, after yawning, to notice Sakura's nearby.]

...Oh. Hiya, Sakura. Need somethin'?

[clearities]

Not really... I was wondering if you were okay.

[doublelammy]

Yeaaah... I'm okay, just tired.

Didn't get to bed 'til really late but my body wouldn't let me sleep in this morning. I was hoping I'd wake up if I came n' got breakfast.

[As Sakura can see, that plan is working out marvelously.]

[clearities]

Yeah, it was really late when we managed to get out, huh... but don't push yourself too hard if you're still tired!

[doublelammy]

I know, I know... [The one situation in which Sakura is the Mom Friend, apparently.] I wanted t'just stay in, since it's not like I've got anything planned for today, really? But I just couldn't fall back asleep.

I'm too used to waking up early, I think.

[clearities]

It happens... I usually need an alarm to wake me up myself, otherwise I'd be late to school.

[ Sakura laughs a little bit, sheepishly. ] But maybe you should try sleeping early today to make up for it! It might help!

[streetwolf]

[He's just walking, going everywhere. Not sticking in one place too long. She gets a nod as he gets close enough for her to hear.]

Might not want to be doing that out in the open after that paper.

[doublelammy]

[Groan.]

What're they gonna do, arrest me for takin' a nap in the park?

S'not like we'd be any safer back at the motel.

[streetwolf]

Well...No. [He'd been saying the motel wasn't safe since the start.]

All it's gotta be is somewhere that people aren't walking past all the time. Somewhere out the way. People ignore shit if it inconveniences them.

[doublelammy]

Mgh.

I wanted to be out in the sun so I could be warm. [That explains why she's chosen here, at least.] N' a friend of mine used to do this all the time, but wow, benches aren't comfy like this at all...

[streetwolf]

It'd probably be better on the grass or a blanket... But a blanket'd be warmer anyway.

[He'd prefer the blanket, more reliable than sunshine.]

[odasaku]

[ well, oda's getting out of the shooting range when he sees millium looking at...guns...?

well... it does say that she's a spy but... ]

Why'd you need a gun all of the sudden?

[doublelammy]

[Oda gets Millium's little nod-greeting, and she turns back to what she was doing before answering.]

Well, s'like I said at the meeting earlier this week: someone's prolly gonna die, and we best be ready if we don't want it to be us.

Right now, all I got is a rusty knife.

[odasaku]

[ it’s a sad truth, but one oda can’t deny. someone’s most likely going to die... it’s only fair that she would want to defend herself.

so he doesn’t argue; oda nods. ]

Makes sense. Do you have experience with guns?

[doublelammy]

A little bit. Not a lot.

I went to military school. We were allowed to stick to our weapons, o'course, but they still wanted us to practice with other stuff. N' Claire uses guns, so she taught me a little bit as a kinda bonding thing.

I was planning to ask Kino for some help later if I can find 'im.

[odasaku]

Kino’s good with a variety of guns, he’d probably be good.

[ he nods. he glances at the guns, and then at millium. ]

You don’t really need a large gun to protect yourself. A semi-automatic pistol would be enough to protect you if you learn to use it well. They’re easier to carry around than some sort of rifle.

[doublelammy]

Yeah, that's what I thought. He's a real quick-draw, too, ehehe... I scared the crap out of him last week n' I've never seen someone point a gun so fast.

[Why is she okay with this.]

Ahaha, yeah... especially at my size, y'know? Still, most of these are way smaller than I saw people toting around back at Thors. It's interesting.

[That's because one of your classmates literally totes around a railgun for his S-Craft, Millium, but you do you.]

[robitussin]

...Oh my god.

[That's spoken in earnest surprise once she realizes Millium is here and she hasn't heard her or immediately seen her. She tilts her head slightly.]

Are you... sick? What's going on?

['Are you dying' seems a little too real, given their quick approaching deadline.]

[doublelammy]

[Millium turns her head slowly toward Natalie.]

Sleeeeeeepyyyyyyyy.

[And, as if her body feels the need to prove her point, she lifts a hand to cover her mouth as she gives a wide yawn.]

[robitussin]

That's what naps are for.

[A pause.]

Do you know what a nap is? Have you ever required one before?

[doublelammy]

[Pout...]

Yes? I'm basically human, c'mon...

[Rude, Natalie.]

I'm just too used'ta waking up early, so when I tried to sleep in, my body wouldn't let me. So I came here hopin' breakfast would help.

[robitussin]

[Rude is her middle name.]

Well, evidently we'll be here a while. Maybe your body will get the memo.

[doublelammy]

I sure hope so. 'Cause if we keep having to do things like that, this is gonna be such a paaaaain...
