Week 2: Trial

The day still is April 13th. It's now the afternoon

Just like he said he would, the Sergeant went to everyone and told them to go to the courthouse. It wasn't difficult to find -- three of the tourists already knew where it was. What nobody, not even these three thought, was that the courtroom would be so much populated this time.

All of the visitors went into the only trial room in the courthouse. In the center there were several podiums, formed into a circle. Each podium had a small notepad and a pen, and a slot on the top part of its surface, presumably to insert your vote in it. Each podium has a small placard showing who it belongs to -- except for Moloch von Zinzer's podium. That one is draped with black velvet.

The tribunes at the sides of the courtroom are higher than where your podiums are. During the trial Sakura, Wayne and Millium attended those tribunes had been empty, but this time they're not. Quite a lot of the townspeople are sitting there, talking with each other and observing all of the tourists with different expressions. Confusion, disdain, shock, all kinds of emotions, all united by the feeling of morbid curiosity. What did the tourists do? What will happen? That's what they're wondering.

And above all of them, on the judge's seat...the Sergeant. None of the townspeople's paying attention to him, he's sitting on his chair and twirling the gavel in his hand. He still is very pleased a murder happened, and once it's time to start, he says:

"We have gathered today for the trial to find the culprit for the death of Moloch von Zinzer. It's your task to discuss, find the truth of this murder and bring it to light. For the sake of not letting you bunch run in circles, I have decided to lend you a hand and give you the five most likely suspects -- the culprit being one of them"

And indeed, five small photos appear on your podium.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. With no further ado, I wish you good luck!"

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to you now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[Millium hasn't had much to contribute to this trial, but this is the point at which she speaks up, because hey, wow, this is not a direction she likes even a little!]

Why don't you care?! If you get all the votes, you're dead, Nine!

[ Cian bites her lip when she hears Millium shout, looking over to Nine as well, pleading. ]

She's right, Nine-kun.... There's no good reason to let everyone vote for you, no matter what... what circumstances.

[linearcrash]

[ Nine looks over at Cian with a tilt of his head. ]

You already know there's a good reason, yo. I'm already dead.

[integratedsoul]

I know, it's just.... You're alive now. And you don't... you don't want to die, do you?

[ That'd be one thing, but this... this is just so needlessly cruel... ]

[linearcrash]

[ He's focusing on the person who means the most sorry... ]

[quickpersuader]

[...Oh. That's something.]

...So the threat of death isn't a big deal to you.

[streetwolf]

Is this some stupid joke to make us not vote for you. I already knew you were a moron but this is pushing it.

[integratedsoul]

N-no, he's serious. He... he told me in our first few days here....

[relieable]

D-does this mean the Sergeant can bring people back to life?

[streetwolf]

[Thanks Cian. He nods at her before pressing some more.]

[linearcrash]

Huh? Why the hell would I joke about that?

[streetwolf]

Right, so you're telling us you died, got brought to life again. Killed some guy to talk to someone and you're just going to give up?

Sounds more like you're taking the hit for someone else you know?

[doublelammy]

You're... what?

[This is the quietest Millium has ever been. She stops dead, eyes wide and skin going pale.]

[linearcrash]

[ It's Millium he'll turn his attention to. Rubbing the back of his head as he looks at her, trying to hold her gaze. ]

We died. We wanted to take on the big bad at the end, knowing we would fail. We wanted to pave the way to a better future for everyone else, you know?

[ Then he'll look away. ]

A future where people can actually remember.

[doublelammy]

[This is all just too close for comfort.

"You're all in for some tough times ahead. I can't go any further now, but you can..."]

...So what?!

[She snaps out of that fast enough, slamming her hands down on her podium.]

Okay! So you're dead at home, fine, whatever! But you're here now, aren't you?! You can't just give up and lie down now!

[tuffguy]

Wait, what?

[snideper]

[hhhhhhhhhhhhuh. huh

Clarisse looks genuinely surprised in a way that isn't just FLUSTERED ANGER, actually—and it takes her a long moment to reign it in to her usual pissy scowl.

but. like. she's putting a mental pin on that.]

[carbide]

[> Olympia will remember this.]

[merirut]

[His frown deepens as he listens to this, but.]

So you had nothing to lose by trying. Is that it?

[clearities]

... [ There's no words, just. A stunned look entirely. ]

[linearcrash]

[ Hey short stuff... he's addressing Millium. ]

[pecker]

[Yeah, um, what the hell is this? She's putting her face in her palm.]

[linearcrash]

[ Well... ]

[ ...

Before he can even think to respond to the first, the guy's saying that he's dead. Along with other things. What the hell...? ]

[pecker]

[You guys are kinda making her look bad for just letting him do this, she's just going to save some face here.]

W-Well. No one's gonna vote for him if we disprove this though, right? Right?
