Week 4: Investigation

A late frost has settled over Cartesio. Ice clings to the grass, to the variety show stage, not yet melted by the sun. How could it be, as it's yet to rise Friday morning?

It is only technically Friday, as the planned variety show reaches into its very final hour. Nearly everything on the schedule's been completed, and the cleanup process has begun.

That's probably why no one expects it, not now. Not this early. It's hard to miss, whether you're attending the show or getting some rest. After all, the sound, it comes from somewhere close to the motel. Somewhere close to the show.

Three gun shots ring out at one in the morning, echoing through the park. Something has gone very wrong.

Someone has good aim.

[ not awkward at all for him? he’ll turn jug’s body around, looking for any exit wounds. ]

[ He'll find the exit wounds! But, might want to rethink that statement a little, Oda. You're familiar with guns, right? You'll probably notice, then, that while all of them are in Jughead's chest, none of the shots hit a vital point. ]

[ then he’ll definitely take that statement back! he frowns, unhappy with the fact that they made jughead slowly drown in his own blood.

can he tell the caliber size of the bullet from the gunshot wound? ]

[ It looks to be 9mm gunshot wounds. ]

[odasaku]

[ it’s a little awkward now, considering the caliber of his guns, but whatever.

is there anything else to note about the corpse? any signs that jughead fought his attacker? ]

[ There's no sign he fought, but you'll find something sort of...body-adjacent near his mouth. Jughead most definitely vomited up whatever he'd eaten. ]

[odasaku]

[ gross, but he can handle it. in fact, oda finds that a little strange, and will now be looking for anything that might point to poison. is there any smell around his mouth, besides that of bile? any signs that don’t coincide with death from blood loss? ]

[cartesio]

[ It's not very noticeable...but god, if you wanna get in close? You'll smell something like bitter almonds around his mouth. ]

[odasaku]

[ he cant believe he had to fucking do this to smell poison. but he’s waded in trash to loot corpses before, so he has no dignity anymore.

anyways, oda recognizes that distinct smell because what kind of ex-killer would he be if he didn’t? ]

Cyanide, huh...

[ well... he’ll now check through jughead’s pockets to see if there’s anything that might help them find the killer? ]

[ He'll find a few things, though most immediately notable, there's a note sticking out of his jacket pocket. ]

[odasaku]

[ ???????

could this be??? a confession letter?

[ The note has only two words:

I'm sorry ]

[odasaku]

[ oh for fuck’s sake!!!!!

is there anything noticeable about the writing or the note itself????? ]

[ Nothing else! Do you want to move on to the other things, in his other pockets? ]

[odasaku]

[ yell heah ]

[ You'll find both the sign-up sheet for the variety show and a copy of the show schedule. ]

[ oh Boy.

alright, is there anything else on his person? any contusions or other injuries? ]

[cartesio]

[ No injuries. Nothing else on his person...but there is something else near his body. ]

[odasaku]

[ ohhh dear. he’s gonna go check that out! what is it? ]

[cartesio]

[ A half-eaten burger! It lays abandoned on the ground. ]

[odasaku]

[ well there’s the answer to what jughead was eating at the time of death.

is there anything else near the body? bullets? caskets? ]

[cartesio]

[ No, but backup a moment! The burger needs a bit closer examination, because there's something strange about it. ]

[odasaku]

[ oh man. he’ll take the burger, examining it closely. what’s off? does it give off the same smell? ]

[cartesio]

[ First of all, it's probably a little weird that this burger has two different kinds of cheese. One is a fancy brie, and the other is plasticy American. ]

[odasaku]

[ well that is a little weird. why mix the two of them together?

will he yield any results by looking closer at the cheeses? or is there something else that’s weird with the burger? ]
