Fifth Week

Everything's getting worse. Rose Nylund and Frasier Crane murdered Jughead Jones during the event Jughead worked so hard to organize. Given some of the townspeople were in attendance, it didn't give a good impression -- if the visitors did this when trying to be good people and get along with Cartesio, then how will they behave once they get into destroying everything? The cruel method of Jughead's death also left everyone quite horrified, too.

That may be why it's no surprise the town's quiet unrest is slowly turning into real, tangible fury.

During the week, from time to time stones break some of the windows of the motel, looking outside shows a random passerby running away. Graffiti is left on the walls: 'SEE IF YOU LIKE THIS' 'MURDERERS' 'YOU'RE GOING TO DESTROY US ALL', and other similar messages. Some of the store owners hesitate when the visitors approach, but they don't refuse service because money is always nice.

The Sergeant's pervasive influence is starting to cover not only you, but also the entire town of Cartesio. After all, everything that's happening to you and the motel? It's the result of what you and the other visitors have done.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[She takes a moment, breathing in and out to avoid losing her temper, before continuing.]

Can you just take my word for it that he can change the rules whenever he wants? You think he's going to play fair if he starts feeling threatened?

I'll take your word for it. But even so, if there's even a slight chance that we could learn something that might put a stop to this, then I'm not against taking the risk for myself.

[robitussin]

...Fine, but if you're going to be stupid and go no matter what, then I'm going with you.

[Okay now that throws him off.]

....why would you do that?

[robitussin]

[She pauses, before giving him a look.]

Remember what I told you last week? Doesn't it make sense that it'd be the two of us, given that?

[marmoron]

...Let's talk about this later.

[robitussin]

[She nods.]

Agreed.

[quickpersuader]

I don't think we should break in, even with a decent group.

[Despite. Decisions made last night.]

Right now at least, it's too risky.

[marmoron]

But you're willing to start a fire inside a building that we had no way of getting out of?

[He wasn't going to argue with Kino about this, but he's exasperated as hell hearing this from her.]

You could've killed everyone there.

[quickpersuader]

The door had the heat sensors.

[So it's fine?]

[marmoron]

So the obvious thing to do would have been to get Dabi to hold up a fireball by the sensors. You don't just set the place on fire, Kino. You had no way of knowing that was going to work. It's one thing if you're only putting yourself in danger, but dragging everyone else into it -- what the hell's wrong with you?

[quickpersuader]

Well, I don't really plan on doing anything like that again, but...

I'll try to avoid endangering everyone else again if it can be helped.

[marmoron]

Kino, do you even care that you did that?!

[quickpersuader]

I don't enjoy burning buildings, if that's what you're asking.

[marmoron]

That's not what I mean.

[quickpersuader]

Then what?

Which part are you asking about?

[marmoron]

Endangering everyone else. That part.

[he was going to keep quiet, too, but now with Keith arguing, it makes him remember that he's really angry]

Who's it too risky for, anyway? The group, or just you?

[quickpersuader]

[It's fine, she's unaffected as ever.]

Both.

Why is sneaking into the lodge too risky, but putting a metal bowl in a microwave okay? Sakura-chan was right there.

[quickpersuader]

She's smart. I trusted she would know to back away if she saw it inside.

Anyway, I thought the payoff for us would be worth it, but... I don't think I'll be trying anything like that again soon.

[robitussin]

[She's been trying to keep calm as well, but...]

Payoff? What payoff did we get, exactly? They were throwing rocks through our windows before, what do you think they're going to start doing now?

Cut the bullshit.

[quickpersuader]

If the meeting was right, someone there should have gotten a medal. That's one less person who has a reason to kill.

None of the townspeople seem to want to kill us so far. A building can be rebuilt. But two people dead...

Well, until now, I thought reversing that would be impossible.

[robitussin]

If you were really worried about someone else getting a medal, you would have let someone else start the fire.

[She crosses her arms.]

Just admit you wanted one.

[quickpersuader]

Of course I want one. [Not even gonna lie there.] But even if it went to someone else, I thought it was a worthwhile trade.
