Week 7: Trial

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Until now, the public had been so angry, waiting to see what the outsiders would do. Now they're calmer. Not indifferent, just waiting to see what will happen.

There are so few of you left. So few people, surrounded by a town that once hated you, and now don't know what to think. Will this trial change their opinions of you again?

Maybe that doesn't matter. You're here to solve a murder, after all.

"Today the victim is Kinzie Kensington. This may be the last chance any of you get the chance to earn a medal. Let's see if this culprit gets away with it successfully."

You receive your list of suspects. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. It has been a while since there was one culprit."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

Yeah, I know.

[ bolin takes a deep breath again. he's steadying himself, preparing himself for what he's about to say. he's looking pretty scared about it, but that's not going to stop him from having to say what he wants to say. bolin takes one final look out to everyone and speaks. ]

I can't hide this anymore. It was me, I killed Kinzie-- but I didn't mean to, it was an accident.

[ and then he looks at keith ]

I'm sorry, I lied. The mover that the Sergeant had for everyone. It wasn't Korra on mine. It was Mako.

[clearities]

[ hey. hey, this is rude? Sakura isn't going to say anything but instead she's going to go pale and bring her hands to her lips because she's upset and might even cry mid-trial because this is absolutely too cruel because she knows what's going to happen next and she does not want this. ]

[tuffguy]

[ i'm sorry sakura. bolin is looking at everyone, but he's having the hardest time looking at her ]

[robitussin]

[She pauses, but...]

Sakura...

[clearities]

Either way is bad, isn't it... [ or rather, all ways are. bad. ]

[robitussin]

...Do you need someone else to do it for you?

[clearities]

Is--

[...] Would that be okay?

[robitussin]

[She nods.]

Yeah.

[She doesn't hesitate long before heading her way.]

[relieable]

[he's trembling now, not angry but so very upset. he has to grip the podium to keep from falling over. every bone in his body is screaming "No"]

Why.... why didn't you say anything? Why did you try to hide it?

[tuffguy]

I panicked! Kinzie and I were fighting against the Sarge when it happened! I made her weapon blow up and I didn't know what to do!

[relieable]

[fighting... against the Sergeant? you brave boy]

You could've gotten killed too, you know!

[tuffguy]

I know! But if we could have won, we could have stopped all of this from happening. We could have saved everyone and then this could finally end.

[relieable]

Dammit! [he drops his head, frustrated. but also... crying? maybe?] You idiot!

[tuffguy]

Yeah-- Yeah, I know.

[robitussin]

[Well, that's Not Great.]

...Were you trying to break him out when it happened?

[tuffguy]

Yeah; I wanted to break him and everyone else that the Sarge had taken captive.

[robitussin]

[A few moments pass before she speaks.]

That's... This is bullshit. That's not your fault!

[tuffguy]

It was my earthbending that made Kinzie's weapon explode! If I was more careful, then my rocks wouldn't have hit her fuel tank, making it explode!

[robitussin]

Yeah, but it's not like you woke up on Thursday and said, wow, the offer he made sounds great, I'm going to go out and murder someone.

[She takes in a breath.]

[tuffguy]

She's still dead because of me!

[marmoron]

[That's getting silence for a long moment.]

So Mako's alive after all.

[tuffguy]

It's worse, the Sarge brought him back to life, just for this.

Just for me.

[marmoron]

... Can't even say I'm that surprised anymore.

[It's getting kind of a bitter smile.]

We all probably owe you some thanks.

[tuffguy]

I don't deserve it.

[marmoron]

I'm not even sure we should be voting for you.
