Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

A motorrad is a two-wheeled vehicle. They can talk, if you listen to them. Humans and motorrads make pacts for each others' benefit - a motorrad can't move on it's own without someone to give it balance, and a person can't run as fast as a motorrad. So, we work together.

[And with that aside out of the way:]

When we first entered, there was a huge glowing pillar. I was told it was the country's reactor, used to power everything in the city. But since it would overheat if it didn't use up enough energy, they had to keep moving.

Past that... the inside was clean. They had a park for everyone to relax in at the very top where sunlight could reach, and lights for everywhere else. I hear they even recycled all of the water used.

[Which could be gross to some, but Kino didn't much care.]

It was a pleasant, peaceful country. Everyone inside could see the outside on large screens on the walls, to see where traveling.

[doublelammy]

Woooah! You have a talking orbal bike?!

[Millium knows what a motorcycle is, thanks to Rean, and this is rad.]

That! Is! Awesome!

[She settles down her cheering some to hear out the rest of the story, though, completely enraptured.]

Wow... that sounds like the coolest place ever. I wish I could see something like that someday...

Maybe someday you will. Or even if you don't, maybe you'll see something even more amazing.

The world is a huge and unbelievable place. There's no way you could possibly see everything it has to offer in a single lifetime - no, not even hundreds of lifetimes.

[But that's precisely why Kino so loves to travel and try to see as much as she can.]

[doublelammy]

Uwaa... how d'you make everything sound so cool when it's so cheesy?

[And that's said absolutely adoringly.]

But... I think you're right, even if it is cheesy when you put it like that. I'll just have to keep looking!

[quickpersuader]

Because it's true.

[And Kino believes in that wholeheartedly.]

Someone like you could probably make it. I hope one day you get to see those sights, too.

[doublelammy]

[Millium gives a big smile.]

Yeah. Me, too.

But, for now...

[She digs in a pocket to pull out her debit card, tilting her head at Kino.]

Want some pie? It's not nearly as exciting, but it's pretty good, too.

[Millium is going to run this diner out of pie singlehandedly.]

[quickpersuader]

[Like Kino's about to turn down good food.]

I'll have a slice, if you're offering.

[Kino you have your own infinite stock of money surely you can pay for it yourself.]

[doublelammy]

Oooone sec!

[And Millium is out of the booth and dashing up to the counter in no time flat. If Kino watches, she'll see Millium gesturing back toward her as she orders, and nodding cheerfully in thanks as she receives another slice of pie.

Back to the table!]

Ta-da~!

[quickpersuader]

[Kino does indeed watch, accepting the slice with a nod in gratitude.]

Thanks. The food here is good, isn't it?

Yeah!

I mean, pie is pretty much always gonna be good, but this place's especially!

The counter lady said it's made with love. I guess love's pretty delicious!

That's one way of putting it.

[Kino takes a small bite, savoring the taste this time around.]

I'm used to portable rations, so whenever I'm in a place with restaurants, eating good food is a treat.

[Portable rations are truly the curse of traveling.]

[doublelammy]

[Millium looks horrified.]

Oh, no... You poor thing...

One of the downsides to traveling. But on the other hand, maybe that's why I appreciate food so much when I get the chance to try something new.

Do you mostly like sweets?

[doublelammy]

I think you can appreciate food even if you're not eating cardboard all the time...

[Millium makes a face. She knows rations, apparently.

But oh, hey, question, and she perks up.]

Ehehe, yeah. When I do a good job on missions or when Claire and Lechter and Rean come back from someplace new, they usually bring me back snacks! And I used to get Jusis to buy me stuff all the time back in school.

[quickpersuader]

I like them, too. [If eating the pie didn't give that off.] There was one country I went to that piled up cream crepes like a mountain on your plate. Even I could barely finish it alone.

[doublelammy]

[Millium's eyes practically sparkle at the description.]

How do you keep finding countries that are basically Heaven...?

[She's so easy to please.]

[quickpersuader]

I wouldn't call that country heaven. Or... maybe just not for certain types of people.

[That country had some particular laws, or rather... lack thereof.]

But I've been to many difficult countries, too. It depends on where you go.

[doublelammy]

Mm, but at least the crepe part sounds really really good...

[Do crepes make up for lawlessness? ...Probably for Millium.]

Ah... you should tell me about all the other places sometime!

[They do appreciate people who can kill. Just not people who actually kill.]

Sure. If you ever get bored, just come find me.

[Kino's got plenty of stories.]

Ehehe. It might be sooner than you think... I think I'm gonna run outta things to do around here sooner rather than later unless more stuff magically pops up.

[That gets a small frown.]

...Yeah. Normally this would be my last day in a country.

[Three days. Only three days.]

...Huh? Why's that?

[quickpersuader]

A traveler once told me that three days is just about the right amount of time to learn about a place while still having time to travel to others.

[doublelammy]

So you only ever do three days?

[quickpersuader]

Unless there's something physically stopping me from moving on, like impassible conditions. But that's rare.

I usually try to avoid areas that have harsh winters. If they're clearer during other seasons, I'll travel to them during that time instead.
