Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!
If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.
It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!
This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

The padlock on the Case Records cabinet has him scowling around the room until he lays eyes on the keys on top of the desk. Noting the layer of dust on it, he does his best not to disturb that (though hm, why is it so dusty, are they short staffed?) then returns to the filing cabinet.
He'll snag the keys off the desk and start trying them out one by one on the padlock! Open sesame?]

There are so many dates to check, Keith. Want to check newer records? Check further back?]

In front of all of them there's a copy of the March 31st newspaper -- one no visitor had seen before:
'Gruesome murder at the park!'
What follows is a very short and not very informative article. Almost nothing can be obtained from it, except that the journalist immediately pointed fingers at the visitors -- after all, the victim is listed as a tourist. There's no more information about the victim.
Continue checking the filing cabinet?]

Is there a name for this journalist and is the same one writing the articles they've been getting? And yes, he'll continue to look through the cabinet and remove any documents that seem important for a closer look!]

The documents you find indeed have Cartesio's local police logo on the corner, and from what you see, the documentation is authentic. It's a bit strange, though: most of it is empty.
There is a report about the murder at the park the newspaper was talking about, with all the gruesome details and description of evidence, and a big UNSOLVED -- but it's at the very bottom of the file. Above it, all the fields, all the places where something could be written, all the slots for past crime reports, everything is completely empty, untouched. There isn't even signs anything was erased]

Time to check what the other files are looking like!]

And, just like in the current day, all the files are empty. All the files that are tucked into the drawers, organized in a way that'd make you think is something in them, have nothing written on them. The further into the past Keith goes, the older the filing cabinet he opens is, the more yellowed and brittle the paper is. In the very first one the format of the documents is different, a very early iteration of how it looks now in the present.
It seems like you won't find anything else of use.]

Seeing as these files seem less accessed, Keith willl just go ahead and borrow one of the papers -- one that looks newer, might reasonably pass for just a regular piece of paper they could get at the convenience store at a glance and folds it into his armor.
That done, he'll very carefully put everything else back the way it was before he entered the room. If there still aren't any signs of people approaching, he'll try and take a quick look to see if there's anything of note inside the dusty desk.]

Somewhere above you, on the second floor, you can hear steps. If Keith has good spatial orientation, he'll hear those steps are going towards the stairs.
Better run away, Keith!]

Either way, TIME TO RUN LIKE THE WIND.
He'll hightail it out of the police station now. Unless he gets stopped, Keith's not gonna stop running until he's got a few blocks between him and the building.]

Not too long after Keith left, Nanette descends back to the ground floor. A couple agents were behind her. She doesn't hesitate, she goes straight to the administrative offices. The moment one of those agents told her he had left the keys lying around, she decided to wait. Once she judged she had waited enough, they descended.
The sight of the padlocks left unlocked/left in ways she didn't remember tells her what she already suspected. She turns to the agents]
You, try taking fingerprints for evidence. You, find out everything you can about these tourists. I don't like this at all.
[Why would they be so interested in police records, even committing breaking and entering in the police station? Nanette's starting to suspect something's weird about these tourists.
End of exploration]
