Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

Abandoned building

I suppose it may have been destroyed to prevent the more enterprising types from creating some kind of signal to the outside. Though I doubt it'll actually stop those outside from finding us. I know my team's scientist is quite capable.

[streetwolf]

How'd it create a signal? There's no radio tower. [What is a computer??? He's completely ignoring the scientist thing.]

Well, there are also satellites and phone towers. Though I suppose it's true those may not be available here. But as long as there is one somewhere I'm sure Shaun would have been able to reach it.

[streetwolf]

...Don't only government people have access to those things?

[You're making him paranoid.]

That entry in the guestbook does mention my occupation, you know. And it is true. The International Police can be reassured of cooperation from most regional governments simply because of their purpose.

[streetwolf]

...What's it say? I ain't exactly got around to reading it yet. You're a cop?

[Yeah he's tensing up at that, hunching his shoulders up.]

I am a member of the International Police, organized to handle major issues that could affect multiple regions. Most of the time, we don't handle more local crimes. Though thanks to the nature of my current assignment my team does not need to answer to our superiors as much. And I have already realized my authority likely does not apply here.

[streetwolf]

Yeah. That doesn't mean shit here. Not much seems to... What's it like here compared to there? Other than the old bastard the cops here actually seem, uh, to be doing what cops should do.

[silvertongueheir]

I confess, this place has far less crime than the places I've been. And in those places, generally the local police would be willing to work with us or provide us information if we needed it. That certainly doesn't seem the case here.

[streetwolf]

Where I'm from... [He's getting the distinct feeling everything is different here.]

Where I'm from they're all corrupt. Says a lot the local military captain got bribed into helping the mafia right? ...He looks kinda like an older you know that I think of it...

[silvertongueheir]

That certainly sounds undesirable. And I do hope that similarity in appearance is all we share.

[streetwolf]

I hope so too, one is more than enough. Still international police huh? You ever heard of a place like this?

[silvertongueheir]

I've seen a few small towns, but none so cut off from the outside world. Nor is the name Cartesio familiar to me.

[streetwolf]

I know. There's not even a train station. Or a place you can get car... Unless you want to steal on but I think that'd backfire if there's guards.

[silvertongueheir]

Indeed. Nor any indication of where and how far other towns may be.

[streetwolf]

Yeah... I mentioned to the girl who died. But there's probably some kinda boarder just out a town.

[silvertongueheir]

And very likely the most well-monitored.

[streetwolf]

I've not tried looking. But it's probably something stupid like nothing for a few miles then a fence with a sniper nearby. I know the checkpoints back home used to be a pain to deal with.

If the Sergeant really can knock people out like Sakura said, then it's likely he needs mostly remote surveillance. He can simply knock out anyone he sees approaching the border then.

[streetwolf]

So... Like poison darts or something?

[silvertongueheir]

More similar to how he knocked your group out. Sakura compared it to electrocution, though I wasn't there, so I suppose I can't say myself.

[streetwolf]

Electrocution? I don't know about that. Maybe he hit her with less of whatever it is cause she's smaller? All I know is it's a pain.

[silvertongueheir]

[He nods.] Still, I'd rather not experiment with the exact mechanics myself. Or have anyone else hurt by testing the limits.
