Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!
If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.
It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!
This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

Ah. Trying to crack the case?

Yeah. I don't understand what Sarge or this town is up to-- but no time like now to try and figure out what exactly's going on.

I wonder if the town is actually in on it...

The officer seemed to think I was causing trouble by even asking.

[He does seem pretty straight-laced, or at least, determined to work on this case.]
The Diner owner doesn't remember when the Sergeant first showed up. She assumes he was born here, since no one really comes here, but she couldn't be sure.
She was sharp for the rest of the conversation, but once I started asking about him, she got confused.
[So. Do with that information what you will, Mako.]

actually really useful information? He pauses and. well. jots that down?]
Thanks.
I didn't introduce myself when we spoke yesterday. [lets pretend that the guestbook doesn't exist, basically.] I'm Mako.

[And that gets a small smile.]
Are you planning to share what you find with anyone else?

[the more people who can solve a crime, the better.]
Or have reason to believe someone will tell the wrong person.

That sounds like the best approach for now.
[And a pause to think over some words, before:]
Are there other locals you were planning to talk to?

[he exhales.]
I'm getting a serious "there is no war in Ba Sing Se" vibe from this place right now.
no subject
[Where is that.]
no subject
It's the capital of the Earth Kingdom, back home.
[he pauses.]
During the 100 year war, Ba Sing Se was under siege the whole time. But the government had told the whole city that there was nothing wrong. There was no war.
That's the feeling I'm getting from this place. Except maybe the phrasing should be, "Cartesio is a peaceful town."

So the townspeople here could be the result of propaganda or some form of brainwashing...

[he closes his notebook.]
But I'll keep asking around.

[No traveler wants to get caught in dictatorships unawares; there are many signs worth looking into.]
Good luck.
