April 7th - Welcome Party

Welcome Party
Though you've never seen the casino before, it is easy to find today. This is partly attributable to the music spilling from open doors right into the town. The people of Cartesio have made good on their announcement - doubtlessly, there is a party going on here.

Anyone entering will be confronted with a friendly citizen pulling them aside to inform them of their dress rental service. Though it is called 'rental' there is no actual fee to be paid. The townspeople have simply brought a collection of suits and cocktail dresses into the casino foyer and they are offering to lend them out for the occasion. A folding screen to get changed behind is provided as well.

Once you venture deeper into the casino, you'll find yourself in a surprisingly spacious room. Tables that might normally occupy the open space have been pushed to the wall and filled with various buffet foods. Though you might be tempted to spend your whole afternoon trying out the various local specialties, the rhythmic music from the speakers tries to lure you to the dancefloor. A few locals are already swinging their hips to the beat.

Though if you're simply looking for the main highlight of a casino, you won't have to look long either. Across from the buffet, you will find a wide variety of game machines. Pachinko, slot machines.... even a few odd-one-out games that look like they should rather belong in an arcade. Try your luck, try your skill! If you prove successful, an employee is waiting to hand out various fun goods to you.

There are quite a few townspeople in attendance on this party, but there is a silent understanding that you tourists are the VIPs here. Anywhere you go, any game you want to try, the citizens are quick to move aside for you and let you have the maximum amount of fun.

[She's not intending to play anything, but she does happen to overhear him as she looks around all the tables and machines, laughing in surprise despite herself.]

Dude, why is that what you're worried about right now?
marmoron: by request of the icon creator, pls do not take (appraising)

[The laughter seems to catch him off guard a little because wow, don't laugh at a question he's asking in earnest!! But then he shrugs it off, relaxing as he looks over his shoulder.]

I-- Look. Things have names for a reason, right?

[How is he the only one bothered by this....]

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-09 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but most people would think about those reasons when they're not in the middle of a game.

[Teasing is her native language, or something.]
marmoron: marmoron (listening)

When's a better time to be wondering about the name of a game if not while you're playing it?

[STILL EARNEST HERE????]

It's not like you'd be thinking about the game while you're not playing.

[He says as the dealer just looks at both of them with a raised eyebrow like dude, are you playing or not and are you joining in]

Isn't it better not to get distracted when you're in the middle of something?

[And... Ah. On that note, she gestures towards the dealer.]

Speaking of which, looks like someone's getting impatient.

If you're in the middle of a battle, yeah. Card games aren't that serious.
[He follows the gesture to look at the dealer though, then frowns. In his hands, he has a 10 and a 5, so he gestures for another card before turning back to look at Natalie.]

Besides this is all coming out of the Sergeant's pocket.

[His deep, deeeeeeeep pockets.]

Winning is totally serious, even if it's a card game.

[Still, though, there's a new note of interest in her expression. Combat was mentioned in his profile, but she's wondering what kind of battle he might have been involved in. It's something she files away to ask about later.]

Which makes it pretty suspicious, if you ask me.

[She's got him there, which is why he maturely says nothing. The card he's dealt is a 4 so he's sticking at that point. ]

Mm. Better get all your resources before the guy decides to cancel the cards to try and pressure us into kniving each other.

[His tone is bone dry there. Keith wouldn't put it past the Sergeant to try deprivation tactics. At this point his room is just a mess of weapons and nonperishable foods....]

...That's not an awful idea, I guess.

[For her, that's high praise, somehow. Either way, she pauses.]

Assuming he couldn't just take away any resources we managed to get.

You gotta do what you can in a war of attrition.

[That's not overly dramatic and grim or anything....

The dealer reveals their hand - a 20, then sweeps up Keith's bet. Scowling a little, Keith turns away from the card table to give Natalie his full attention.
]

You said you're just a normal high schooler? You can't let a bunch of what-ifs about the enemy dictate your moves.

Don't wars normally involve more people...?

[That's somehow her one objection to this statement. Either way, she shrugs.]

Isn't it better to consider all the possibilities so you're prepared for anything?
marmoron: (more resting bitchface)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-10-16 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on perspective.

[The war against the Galra realistically began with only seven people on their side in the end. They've got 30 - or well 29 with Mako gone now, but that's still over four times their original number. It totally counts.]

It's -- sometimes it's stupid to overthink and get stuck in not doing anything. We don't know a whole lot about the Sergeant. What he's getting out of this, what he's capable of, what his weaknesses are. If we keep assuming the worst and approach this like the guy's always going to be one step ahead, he's already won.

[Translation: Keith has two modes: "go" and "go faster." You deal with trouble as it comes or something.]

[She gives that some honest consideration, but then shakes her head.]

I'm not saying we should assume anything. I'm saying we should find out the answers to all of those questions before we do anything.
marmoron: marmoron (relaxed)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-10-18 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Answers to those kinds of questions don't just fall into your lap. You have to take the initiative to find out.

[VICTORY OR DEATH.]

When did I say we shouldn't take initiative to figure stuff out...?

[It fits with the trend, but if she's saying thaaaaat then:]

So you're talking to the Sergeant?
robitussin: (pic#12583105)

[personal profile] robitussin 2018-10-18 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods.]

I'm planning on it, yeah. Why?
marmoron: prescar (Look bub)

[personal profile] marmoron 2018-10-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
We should make sure that what he's saying is consistent.

You want to make a list of questions that we can both ask, then?
