WEEK 3: April 15th - April 19th

Third Week
The peaceful times are over. Moloch von Zinzer was murdered, and Nine was sentenced as his murderer. Everyone in Cartesio knows that.

Although life goes on, it seems the town of Cartesio isn't going to forget the tourists' transgressions. Not only they commited larceny in the cinema, they also murdered and executed in their town! It's no surprise their hospitality towards the visitors has cooled down considerably.

Not only they're maintaining a tense cordiality with them, they also have started talking behind the visitors' backs. All kinds of rumors are starting to sprout, yet nobody seems to be willing to say it to the tourists' faces. Talking directly to most passerby makes them distrustful, and nobody seems to want to be in close quarters alone with them.

It's only matter of time before the relationship between tourists and Cartesio starts degrading even further.

In the lobby of the motel there's a few more brochures, and the maps have been updated once again.

[Despite all the revelations yesterday, today Franciscus is in an extremely good mood. Everywhere he goes, he's followed by a large rock bird, sometimes waddling alongside him and sometimes gliding for short distances. He often stops to wrap an arm around its neck or ruffle its feathers as well.]

You're such a good boy, Gerard. You must have been waiting for so long, right? I'm not going to let anyone take you away ever again.

[At the diner, he ends up ordering a pizza, carefully cutting it up and forking slices over to the bird sticking a head through the window.]

They don't have bluefin here, but I hope you like it anyways.

[The cheerful "Ar" sound Gerard makes seems like he does.]

[Even later, they go to the park, where Franciscus sits back on a bench and watches Gerard glide overhead, swooping and diving, and just smiles warmly. If anyone appears, he'll gesture at the bird proudly.]

Isn't he magnificent?

Oh, yes. Quite a - a marvelous creature! Though I must admit I am...rather unfamiliar with the species.

[just kind of in awe]

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-19 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
He's an Archeops. Even in my world, they are technically extinct, although there are scientists capable of recreating eggs from fossils, with some existing genes spliced in. And breeding programs as well. Gerard has a pedigree of spliced genes from Palmer Breeders-one of the most illustrious ranches.

[He looks very proud of his bird son.]

[personal profile] saladandeggs 2018-10-19 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
...My, well - well, genetics sure have - come a long way, haven't they?

[...he doesn't really know what the fuck you're talking about.]

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-19 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Look just get Jughead he can compare it to Jurassic Park or something.]

They certainly have. He's as healthy as any creature born in the current time period. [Gerard glides down at this point for more neck-scritches.] Good boy.
saladandeggs: (010)

[personal profile] saladandeggs 2018-10-21 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[That implies Frasier cares about Jurassic Park.]

So, are you some sort of...geneticist, then?
silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-21 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no. My family paid the geneticists to bring Gerard back.
pecker: (oh?)

[personal profile] pecker 2018-10-19 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[She's coming over, wide eyed.]

Oh my gosh... is that a prehistoric bird?

["I'm not going to let anyone take you away ever again" CHALLENGE ACCEPTED]
silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-19 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
He certainly is. He's an Archeops, and I had him specially revived by expert scientists, with the finest genetic pedigree to give him the hardiness to survive.
pecker: (chicken breasts)

[personal profile] pecker 2018-10-20 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
G-Gosh. I would think reviving an extinct species would be amazing enough without also trying to make it a "pedigree".... is this somehow commonplace?

[She's talking to him but her eyes are totally focused on the Archeops. It's really cool!! A dinosaur!!]
silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-20 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
There are scientists capable of it in every region by now, but the process is still fairly expensive. Although revived Pokemon are also capable of breeding, so there is that route as well.

[personal profile] duckrotation 2018-10-19 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about magnificent... But he kind of looks like if one of those ugly hairless dogs and an emu had a child!
silvertongueheir: (I had in store)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-19 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
[A slight "humph."] I suppose you wouldn't recognize him as an Archeops. They were more common in the prehistoric age, but with modern technology it is possible to revive them from fossils.
duckrotation: (pic#12602075)

[personal profile] duckrotation 2018-10-21 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Prehistoric? For real?

[HOLY HELL??]

I didn't know there was technology that could bring dinosaurs back from extinction! I thought they all died for good when that big meteor struck the earth.
silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-21 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
In my world, that technology exists. Though I'm sure there are still many other species that we have not been able to revive yet. The number of existing known Fossil Pokemon evolution lines can be counted on two hands.
duckrotation: (pic#12602043)

[personal profile] duckrotation 2018-10-22 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooohhh. [Other world person. Got it. Nods like she gets it. (She actually doesn't.)]

But wouldn't it be dangerous to revive them? After all, they're... dinosaurs. [Basically.] They could eat you if they really wanted to. [Do you really want a Pokemon version of Jurassic Park???]

silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-23 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well, nowadays they're brought back as eggs and hatched by Trainers, so they'll imprint on them. He was also much smaller when he first hatched. The largest one upon hatching is probably Aerodactyl, and they prefer fish anyways.
duckrotation: (pic#12602058)

[personal profile] duckrotation 2018-10-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
And you're not at all worried that someday they might just turn on them?

[BECAUSE... THAT CAN HAPPEN...]

They couldn't have been domesticated nearly as long as- whatever else you have. [She doesn't get Pokemon. Didn't reach that year yet.] It's like alligators. Even if they imprint on you, they've still got all those sharp teeth and if you make one wrong move that they don't like... [SMACKS HER HANDS TOGETHER AS A GESTURE] CHOMP!

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-20 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
...Hm.

[He can't help but look over there...]

You should invite your little friend in.

So he can be... a dinersaur.
silvertongueheir: (I had in store)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-21 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
...he's a Fossil Pokemon. Revived by the best possible scientists, of course.
protectandselfserve: am i annoying you yet (twiddle twiddle twiddle)

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-23 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
...Oh! I'm kind of surprised they don't only bring back females so they don't breed out of control and cause problems.
silvertongueheir: (I always knew)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-23 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they can't rely only on revivals to bring back fossil Pokemon, after all. It's still a somewhat expensive process. So you would want breeding pairs as well. Those eggs are much cheaper than a fresh revival.
protectandselfserve: am i annoying you yet (twiddle twiddle twiddle)

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-23 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see!

...actually, wait, I'm not sure if I do. Are you saying they basically perform some sort of necromancy rather than just using their DNA to create clones?
silvertongueheir: (Default)

[personal profile] silvertongueheir 2018-10-23 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...the process is more similar to cloning, but most of the time it only works once per fossil. The scientists who developed the method simply seem to prefer the term "revival." I also don't believe Gerard has any memories from his past, and he was brought back in his youngest form.
protectandselfserve: am i annoying you yet (twiddle twiddle twiddle)

[personal profile] protectandselfserve 2018-10-23 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see...

[HE DOESN'T, REALLY.]

Well, it's something truly remarkable, in any case. That sort of thing only exists in movies where I'm from.
