Peace Week

Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!

If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.

It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!

This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

I do. My whole family's back at home.

[he wants to ask something else, but it's none of his business about her life, if she's killed before. there are people who were brought here who seem to be very strong, or have dealt with a lot more than he ever has had to]

["Family." ...Hm.]

...Tell me about them. Your family. What are they like?

[Clearly caring nothing for danger, Millium crawls on top of a scrap pile and makes a seat for herself. This girl is gonna give herself tetanus.

But there she sits, perched on top of rusted metal with a knife in each hand, staring down Osomatsu and inquiring about family.]

[she's brave, he'll give her that much! he leans back, looking up at the sky]

Whooo, let's see. There's a lot of information to go through.

[but he grins softly. this is a subject he loves talking about. he tilts his head back down to look at her again]

For starters, I have five younger brothers. We're sextuplets... which is like... having a twin, except there are six of us!

[It may be a lot of information, but she seems interested!]

Oh, woah. And you were all born at the same time, right? That's how twins n six-tup... six-twins work?

More or less! But I came first, which is why I'm the oldest! [he puffs up proudly, because, to him, being oldest matters... sometimes. except when he has to be responsible. but he's getting better about that!]

So I live with those guys, my brothers, an' my parents. All of us crammed together in that one house.

Oh, wooow. Must be pretty cramped in there! Do you guys share rooms?

[Not that she knows what that's like, but she's read that's a thing that happens with siblings sometimes.]

Hehe. I get you, though. I've got a little sister, too. Being the biggest is important!

We share one room, yeah. [he won't tell her about how six grown-ass men share the futon, too, because that's embarrassing] And mom an' dad sleep downstairs in the master bedroom...

Oh. Um...

Her name's Al. Altina. ...I don't actually know her too well. She was made after me, and neither of us really remember that much about where we came from 'fore we woke up with the Ironbloods. They made sure of that.

But we're the same, her and I. I've got my link to Lammy, she's got Sammy. Probably built to the same specs, too. So she's basically my little sister.

[little sardines is actually an apt description when they're all tucked away in bed.

though Osomatsu's own smile fades at her explanation. made?]

[Thankfully, someone's already explained to her what a robot is.]

Mmm... not really. If you opened me up, I'm prob'ly pretty much just like you on the inside.

[Because that sure is an image anyone wanted!]

I bleed n' breathe n' get hungry n' stuff. But I'm only ever gonna get so big, 'cause I'm made for sneaking missions. And I was made to link up with Lammy. Normal humans can work combat shells, too, but not like Lammy n' I.

[so someone, in some world, was building humans. okay? Osomatsu doesn't quite understand!]

What are... combat shells?

Those're more like robots.

I think, "hey, Lammy! I want you to punch something!" And then boom! He punches it and it breaks into a bazillion pieces!

So he's basically the best.

[ah....... now he's definitely thinking this girl has had a difficult life]

So, do you and, uh... Lammy? Do you guys get into fights a lot?

[It's funny... she really doesn't think of it that way. Actually, she seems pretty cheerful, talking about Lammy. More cheerful than she did about Altina, anyway.]

Oh, yeah, all the time.

Sooometimes I'm maybe not as good at the sneaking part of the sneaky missions as I should be. [She giggles a bit at herself, setting one knife down so she can knock her fist against the side of her head lightly, accenting it with a wink and poking her tongue out.] Whoops. So then we gotta punch our way outta there and sometimes laser down a wall or somethin'.

...Oh, yeah. And we were totally helping with the war this past year!

[YOU KNOW, JUST, CASUALLY DROPPING A WAR INTO A CONVERSATION trails of cold steel is wild]

[WAR? this kid was fighting in a war? there's so much to take in. no wonder she was looking for a weapon!]

So you fight, go on missions, an' participate in a war... [it's... a lot, but then Osomatsu nods, like he understands, accepting her for who she is] Then, you probably don't need any protection, huh?

...mmmh.

[She kicks her legs absently, apparently sure enough that this pile's not gonna slide out from under her.]

That's the thing. If Lammy were here? Yeah. I'd be good.

But he's not. Lammy hasn't been coming when I call since I got here two weeks ago. So it's just me, now...

[oh, right. she uses the combat shell to fight. Osomatsu bites his lip in thought. if that's the case, then she really does need help, like Sakura.

he's quiet for a moment, before he puts a hand to his chest]

I'm not that strong, or smart. I'm also a stranger, who probably can't be trusted. But... I wanna help you, if I can. If something bad happens, you can come to me. And we can figure out some sorta solution together. If you want.

[doublelammy]

[There's something about that little speech that's almost familiar to her.

Certainly enough that it earns Osomatsu a smile.]

Hehe... you sound like someone I know, when you talk like that. Even talking down about yourself, too...

[She says that, but it's said so fondly it can't possibly be an insult.]

...You'd be a lot more trustworthy if I knew your name, though. I read the guest book, but... [She grins sheepishly.] All I remember was that your name was really long. Sorry, I'm still trying to memorize.

[ah, Osomatsu rubs the back of his head sheepishly]

Oh, yeah. [that's a good place to start. he didn't get a chance to read the guestbook, yet, so he knows even less] I'm Osomatsu! But if that's too long, Oso's fine.

Oso! I think I can work with that!

[Nickname granted! She smiles wider.]

I'm Millium. It's nice to meet you, Oso.

[everything about her is cool, a cool kid. but now that he knows her name, he's even more worried about her. maybe she should have a knife]

So, did you wanna fix up one of those knives? Maybe the hunting shop has rust-remover.

[doublelammy]

Yeah. ...Let's bring both. Maybe we can fix up the other one for you, too.

[Because it would be sad if Oso got hurt, she thinks.

She's not sure it's sad enough to make her cry, but it'd be sad. She can recognize that much.

She hops down from the scrap pile, actually landing pretty gracefully.]

Though, I wonder if they've got anything left after that guy was in there earlier...

There was this guy in the hunting shop earlier when I poked my head in that was tryna buy everything. Like, at once.
