Week 3: Trial

April 20th. It was now time for the trial.

When everyone arrives at the trial room, the tribunes are already filled with townspeople. Compared to last week, there's less morbid curiosity and more quiet outrage. Everyone's glaring at the visitors while they enter the courtroom.

The number of podiums draped in black has increased dramatically. Nine's, Mako's, Sandalphon's, and Bakugou's have joined Moloch's, raising the number to five. That's one sixth of the available podiums. How many more will be covered in black velvet before these two months end?

Once everyone is at the right podium, the Sergeant bangs his gavel. He doesn't seem to be in better mood than before.

"Today the victim is Katsuki Bakugou. Solve it."

Without even bothering to taunt or be as antagonistic as usual, he waves the gavel. Five small photos appear on the podiums.

            

"When it's time, you shall cast your vote. Write it on paper or put the photo inside the slot, I don't really care about how you do it. What matters is that you actually do it. Start your discussion."

The trial room went completely silent, all the visitors can feel the attentive stares of the townspeople gathered to watch. It's up to them now to find the culprit.

Let the trial begin.

[of course she doesn't friendliness is disgusting

but Clarisse strips from the waist up first (keeping her arm guards on because she already removed them for Osomatsu) and lets Cian check her over before she redresses herself, putting her chest guard back on, and then she'll strip from the waist down, including her armored boots. If Cian asks, she'll take off the arm guards after she's been dressed again. Nudity is not a problem but potentially being unguarded absolutely is?!?!

She's got some light scarring over her body, but no fresh injuries.]

[ Cian takes her newfound duty seriously and gives Clarisse a very thorough look. It's kind of awkward and uncomfortable, but better than overlooking something and thus possibly condemning the wrong person to be executed??

When she steps back out from behind the screen, she announces: ]

Clarisse-san isn't injured. Which means none of our suspects have any injuries.

Do you think that means they fought Bakugou from a distance? [ That... seems unlikely, but it's even less likely someone fought him hand-to-hand and got away with no wounds. ]

Or they were just extremely good at fighting... That's kind of impressive, especially in last night's weather.

That kind of gives me an idea. It's a bad one, but it is an idea. ... Where's the candlestick again? Can we compare it to Bakugou's injuries?

Oh, huh.... Kino-kun was the one who looked at the body, so he'd know best how much it fits.

[ Count her in the club of getting that gender wrong. ]

How deep was the wound again? "Not deep enough to be fatal"?

Right. I don't think it was the killing blow.

Yeah, that's where the "bad idea" comes in. What if somebody actually tried using it as a projectile? If the culprit really did have to keep their distance, that would be one way of doing it. It would explain why the wound wasn't that deep, too.

...If that's the case, it wouldn't have been Clarisse. She wouldn't have had to send that his way, she already has arrows.

Do you think it's possible he could have been stabbed and then fell backwards and hit his head? If he was unconscious when he went under...

[ This is so not relevant, but now she's just curious. ]

I am fully artificial, as are the majority of Yggdroids.

That's impressive! In my world they mostly use biological material to make intelligent machines.
