Sunday must have been exhausting for you, maybe even upsetting. A new town, new faces and a an ominous order from a man without a face... who wouldn't be a little frightened? Hopefully, all of that is forgotten when you climb out from under your blankets this fine Monday. Rise and shine! A new morning is a new start!
If you make your way to the lounge, you will find a few copies of the local newspaper provided for your perusal. Once you go outdoors, you'll find the weather forecast 100% accurate. It's pretty impressive.
It seems that quiet mornings like this are going to be your everyday life now. Maybe you should see this whole stay as a vacation? Go out and explore the town, meet your fellow motel guests and meet the townspeople. They're sure to welcome you with a smile!
This week's special in the diner is lemon pie made with love (and a top-secret recipe)

Diner:
[you know, the woman in charge of the Diner seemed pleasant enough. And after the Sarge had proven useless for conversation, Mako figured it was time to start interviewing the locals.]
Excuse me ma'am?
[unlike a certain paladin, he's polite.]
Police Station:
[this conversation he feels more certain about-- and possibly more suspicious about. He's been to Ba Sing Se. He knows how corrupt law officers work. So, he's just got to be on his guard.]
Has anyone tried to report a kidnapping yet?
[blunt, to the point.]
PC interactions:
[Well to start with, he's investigating the hunting shop... and honestly, he looks utterly confused at how all of this works? Bows and arrows he gets, but the guns? A total mystery. But he can tell it has something to do with the range outside.
But later, he's writing down everything he knows in the lobby. he seems pretty into his work. but he's not full blown conspiracy theorist. not yet anyway.]
Diner
Oh, no need for that. Just call me Lucille, or Mrs. Mitchell if you really insist. What can I get for you?

[he considers how best to handle this, since he doesn't recognize any of the items on the menu.]
What do you recommend?

What's something that's good for lunch?

POLICE STATION NPC
No. Trust me, a kidnapping would be unprecedented in this town. If someone had reported such a thing, it'd be the talk of the town.
[Nanette's giving him a break because he's an outsider, yep]

Because the town is that small?

no subject
Huh. What type of crime do you typically see? Theft, burglary, murder...?
[he doesn't bat an eye]
no subject
We almost never have crime. The last time someone made a report was because they thought they had seen an intruder sneaking through the window. It actually was a cat dragging a coat into the house. That was weeks ago.
[In other words, the type of crime they usually see is...nothing. Crime is almost nonexistent]

but oda's coming back to the motel with the gun and ammunition he managed to get from the hunting shop before keith did...whatever stupid shit he was trying to do.
but it's mako writing that catches his attention, so he'll walk up to him. ]
What are you writing?
no subject
he remembers his profile because it had some details that... well. stood out to him.]
Everything I've learned so far. Why?
no subject
ah well. not the first person to dislike him, won't be the last. get in line, mako.
that said, he still talks to him evenly, as if not bothered by the obvious tension. ]
Mm, no reason. I guess it just stood out to me; that you were writing. [ a pause ] What have you learned?
no subject
That we're all here from seemingly different worlds. That this isn't new to at least two people I've met so far.
And a few theories.
[he stands.]
I'll figure out more as I go, though.
no subject
That's a lot more than I've thought up, at least. I guess all I've thought is that this place is a little too...calm. It's weird, kind of.

Making a report?
[It's a lazy, haphazard guess. There's a gun holstered at Kino's hip, if someone actually explained to Mako what those are.]
no subject
More like note-taking what I've heard and observed so far.
no subject
Ah. Trying to crack the case?
no subject
Yeah. I don't understand what Sarge or this town is up to-- but no time like now to try and figure out what exactly's going on.
no subject
I wonder if the town is actually in on it...

Then he sees the navidork, Mako Mako. ]
Yo. [ Lifting his hand and then he tilts his head towards the guns. ]
Hey, it almost looks like you've never seen a weapon before.
[ He says it like it's a joke. Cause there is no way someone hasn't seen one, right? ]
no subject
[a quick correction. he's only unfamiliar with the guns!]
What are they?
no subject
[ Then again...he seems kind of like one of those serious types. ]
They're guns. They can do some serious damage, yo.
no subject
[bluntly]
And I'd assumed they're dangerous given everything else that's here.
